Windows 8.1 with the return of the startbutton, resizeable shortcut tiles, and multi-window view in fullscreen modern mode looks like an improvement to Windows 8.

I'm using a Beta version of Windows 8.1, and so far it is pretty good. I like that I can re-size the icons on the modern start screen, and there is a startbutton. Also, I can right click on the startbutton, and pick Shutdown to quickly shutdown Windows.

I thought 8.1 was out of beta and out for public use?

Windows 8.1 is still in Beta, but the public can use it by downloading the Beta of 8.1 from Microsoft's website.

I think the final release of 8.1 will come before the end of October.

Windows 8.1 will be a free upgrade from Windows Update for people who already bought Windows 8, Windows 8 Pro, and Windows RT. But, Windows 8.1 won't be free for new Windows buyers, and people who plan to upgrade from Windows 7 and below.
