I bet part of the small rise in Windows XP is from people who install Windows XP on their new Windows 8-8.1 computer because they can't get used to the Tiled StartScreen Desktop, and Windows XP is easier to pirate than Windows 7. XP is also cheaper to buy on sites like eBay where you can buy a copy of XP for $20 or less.
Plus, a lot of the cheaper Windows 8 laptop and desktops only come with 2GB of RAM which is not enough RAM for playing PC Games in Windows 7, but 2GB is good enough for Gaming in XP.
