Sony announced a new game from Sony London during its E3 2012 press conference. Called Wonderbook, the game is coming to PlayStation 3 and supports Move motion controls. The concept is to bring stories to life in your living room. It will support educational as well as entertainment experiences.

One such experience is Diggs Nightcrawler, from Moonbot Studios - though nothing was shown of this game during the conference. We did get a glimpse of the first Wonderbook title, however - a collaboration between Sony, Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling and her website Pottermore.

The game is called Book of Spells, and is set in the Harry Potter universe. It will allow players to discover and perform different spells from the books. Book of Spells is coming to PS3 this holiday season.

impressive as it was, I can see myself quickly getting bored with it.

Funny thing when they were showing this during the press conference - so they first showed Wonderbook, and I Tweeted "Looks fun but still doubtful. Bring in J.K. Rowling and then I'm convinced."

And then, 5 minutes later - BOOM - Wonderbook Book of Spells.

So yes, I'm loving this.

Interesting concept, but felt a bit out of place in E3. And the whole "set in the HP universe" sounds a lot like they're just trying to cash out on Rowling's fame. But like the Vita, it might start slow, but if they play their cards right, it might become one of the defining factors in determining the videogames' place as more than an entertaining tool.

Still, makes me happy that Sony is really trying its hand on augmented reality gaming.

The idea behind this is great and the demographic for this is blatantly obvious. But man, did they really have to devote so much time to it? As creative as it was, that part of the show was putting me to sleep. But if it will get children more intent on wanting to read, how can anyone knock this?

This could be a great device to encourage reading in kids. It might even become something among older gamers. But I do not see myself enjoying it more than a handful of times to be honest.
