Would most broadband internet modem also come with built-in Wi-Fi router in the future?

Possibly, since it make sense for the modem and Wifi to be combined since most people have laptops, gaming consoles, ereaders and Tablets which need Wifi to go online to install updates, or to browse, and combining Wifi+the modem won't be as expensive as buying them separately since they will share the same plastic case, wiring, and parts. Plus, it would save desk space, and help the environment since one less router and modem will be thrown out.

There also won't be compatibility issues with both the router and modem if they are combined since they would be tested for compatibility and if it works before it leaves the factory.

Some ISP like ATT are already combining the Modem with the wireless router.

I rather have them separate, as you may need to place your wifi router at a high place to get good signals.
 
Indeed, moving the router slightly higher to get a better signal is an advantage of having the router separate. I think most newer routers these days with 802.11N does not suffer from signal loss from being at a low location as the modem since the signal is better, so having the modem and router at the same location should be fine for most people.
 
Yes, also the cable which come with the router or modem for connecting to the modem is very short (The company is too cheap to bundle a longer cable), so in many cases, you can't put the router much higher then 1-2+ feet which is the height of a monitor.

I find changing the Channel in the router makes a bigger difference then positioning the router. I changed the Channel of my router to 11, and now it does not disconnects as often, and have a better signal.

This video is pretty good for learning how to change the channel on a router, but new routers probably automatically adjust the channel when it needs to be changed, or are less affected by channels then old router.

 
Same for me, I feel most consumers like inexpensive All-in-one devices which save space like multi-function printer/scanner/copier/fax machine or cell phones like the iPhone, Blackberry, and Google Android Phone which can also play MP3 , videos, web browse, play games, record sound, and take photos and videos.

I think there is a higher chance of your ISP modem not working with a router you buy from a store then a router and modem combo since there are so many brands and models of routers and modems which don't always work well with each other.

In a Combo modem/Router, the router and modem are made by the same, so the company that makes the router and modem will likely test if both modem, and router in the combo work well before shipping it to your ISP to install in your home.

Where I live the two biggest broadband ISP are also bundling Wifi for free when you subscribe to wired internet to take costumers away from other smaller ISP which don't come with free Wifi with their modems, and the ISP save money on gas and staff by not having to configure so many different store branded WiFi routers manually by going to each houses since they can just use their office computer to login to your modem/wifi modem you bought from their ISP office rather then driving to your house to configure a modem and router seperately with a laptop when you have problems, or they can just provide technical support over the phone or by e-mail/instant message chat if their modem/router combo is not as advance to allow login from their office PC.
 
Yes, I agree many internet service providers are ripping off the customer by charging 30-40 dollars a month, or selling your browsing history to online and offline advertising, and are not very trustworthy in many cases.
