No, you're not missing anything. There's no Windows 9. They just skipped from 8 to 10.
So isn't that a confusing mess? Now we'll have people in stores asking how they missed a version of their computer's operating system, and wondering whether they missed half a decade Rip Van Winkle style in the process.
Reminds me of a particular PC game series that has no 4th game. Goes from 3 to 5 as a joke.
I believe the concept behind this name is to stress how far ahead of a jump it is. I mean, pretend the SNES never existed and instead the N64 came out and Nintendo named it the Nintendo Entertainment System 3 because it was so advanced compared to the original. It is kind of like that, I think. To me, it shows they are proud of what they are making and naming it as such shows they are confident in how advanced the new OS will be.
As long as it doesn't run like Windows 8 I'll be happy. I can't stand this PoS OS.
From what I can see, it half runs Windows 8. The start bar has the tiles and program list all in one place. Which just looks awkward as hell.
And that series you mention? I think that's Leisure Suit Larry. TV Tropes has it on 'Uninstallment', saying that the game's creator couldn't think of a way to tie games 3 and 4 together, and so just pretended he'd came up with an answer between games.
Oh please. Microsoft does that all the time. Windows 97, Windows 98, Windows 2000. There never was a Windows 99. Plus 2000 is 1992 more than 8 so we're going backwards at this point.

Now we know that Microsoft hates 9's, also I would've preffered if they called it "Windows Final".

Yeah, I knw the series name lol I own them all (except Love for Sail, which was the best one imo). Was trying not to mention it because of the rating lol
And as long as Windows 10 actually RUNS THINGS I'd be happy. The metro system in 8 is atrocious but not nearly as bad as the fact that absolutely NONE of my old PC games (Such as thief Gold, Thielf 2, Diablo, and Diablo 2) run on this darned thing! Forget my Sims games - my Limited Edition Sims Medieval isn't even that old and IT won't run!
I doubt Microsoft will manage to confuse anyone with Windows any more then they already have. Windows 8 was a neat idea that very, very few people actually wanted- or had the capability to enjoy. Hardly anyone has a touch screen monitor, especially when it first released. Hell, I have a Surface Pro 2 (One of their tablet PCs) that use for art that runs Windows 8. Windows 8 works great, but the only time I'm even IN the Metro menu is just to click the desktop button because I've updated and restarted it. I just don't need the fancy touchscreen features. When I'm not using it to draw, which is the only thing I DO use the touch screen for, I have the little keyboard and a mouse hooked up too it.
Besides, everyone who has a paid version of 8 is getting Windows 10 for free, or so I heard. I doubt that anyone familiar with past versions of Windows and their previous naming scheme will bat an eye over it jumping to 10. A little weird, but it's not like they've ever had a naming scheme and stuck with it for more than 2-3 releases anyway.
