X/Twitter plans to hide likes from the platform

He claims its so people aren't attacked for what they like on the platform

I am in two minds about this to be honest, we have had likes for so long and now we are losing them, it's going to hit people hard but at the same time, I get why he's done it to prevent seeing what others like.

Instead of taking likes away, why not prevent it from showing on other's timelines when you like something?

As long as the notification for people who like posts commenting back at you that disagree with you is hidden from view, I am okay with this. But hiding them from your feed is another thing entirely. That's pretty nice.

Elon Musk is planning on removing the amount of comments and reposts that a tweet gets on X.

X is currently testing the removal of like, comment, and repost buttons, along with their counts, from replies to posts. The view count would be removed from reply posts as well.

Removing interaction counts from replies would undoubtedly change the culture of X by affecting the social media meme known as the "ratio." When a user publishes a controversial or unpopular post on X, the reply posts from users who comment in the replies often receive more reposts and likes than the original post. This is known as a "ratio."
