Xbox may drop in price again, sources say

I doubt it can drop any lower, unless it'll remove memory. I understand the importance of running against the competition, but they may be devaluing the Xbox.

Should they drop the price again this fall?

With the PS4 overtaking the Xbox a whole load with sales and them losing deals with Call of Duty they really need to start doing something to regain their position in the market. I've heard they're making it backwards compatible which could interest some players. I think it's a bit too late personally, I upgraded ages ago to a PS4 and a lot of my friends did too.

Dropping in price again would help sales but they need to do something else to interest people to their console and not Sonys

If they bring out the 1 TB xbox, the current ones should be discounted.

If a 1TB Xbone did appear then they would probably keep the older ones going but at a much reduced price.

Similar thing to what they did with the 360, if I recall.

I think Sony seem to be pulling away at the moment, especially in terms of sales and Microsoft need to do as much as they can to reign them back in. Cutting the price of the console will definitely help, to get the systems off the shelves.

For a company the size of Microsoft, it's not all about how much money they make, it's about how much of a product they can sell aswell. Popularity over profit margin is what they tend to look at most I think.

How soon do you think the xbox one price will drop?
I think it's pretty hard to say definitely how much Microsoft will drop the price, because a number of different factors will come into it. How well the console is selling, is the market share dropping, and what other versions are released are just some of the things that will affect the price.

Obviously has the Xbox gets older, the price will come down but by how much is something only Microsoft can decide.

I can't imagine the price drop will come anytime before the holiday season.  Microsoft has to know that there isn't much to be gained by dropping the price in the middle of the summer.  If anything, that would mean that they would be pressured to drop the price again in the lead up to Christmas.

Who knows with Microsoft, though.  They have lots of money to throw around.

Let's sure hope so because that would be a really good thing, I think that it is enough already of having high prices on consoles.

Microsoft absolutely needs to drop the price of the Xbox One. The popularity of the PS4 is only increasing and it's only a matter of time that the sales gap between the two rival consoles widens. Well, the holiday season isn't too far away, they may decide to lower the price then. Or at least several months before the holiday season, say around September or October.

THIS. The PS4 already has more sway with the market now, and unless Microsoft does something with the price-point, it certainly is going to be a repeat of the beginning days of the seventh generation of consoles, with Sony utterly dominating. The 1TB PS4 already has a few little jabs in terms of one-upmanship, what with the matte finish and all. Clearly an attempt to subtly undermine rivals, show that they are taking that extra step forward.

September would be a great time to start their big push for sales because it's around that time that games start to be released more regularly.

They're already $50 less than the PS4.

If they still can't beat them even in their home country of America at the lower price then there is something REALLY wrong, and it's not the price that's the problem.

Because they dropped the price WITHOUT doing the R&D to make the price drop profitable, they're already losing money on the system.

I REALLY don't see them dropping it again.

The holiday price drop they did last year devalued the system as it is. Remember, they tried to bring the price back to $399, but that only lasted 8 days because their sales tanked hard, so they were forced to go back down to $350 because of it.

They aren't crazy enough to risk that again are they?

I don't know, I think they're pretty affordable as is for all the capabilities it gives now. Its a big purchase sure, but I haven't looked at the Xbox one being overpriced in a long time.

If they're considering this though, it must mean sales are doing extremely poorly. I do agree that PS4 is the better console, but they must be taking them to the cleaners in sales to consider moving the price down again.

I'd be curious to see what factors go into thinking about this kind of decision. If its based of research, sales, future projections, etc.

A price drop is good news for poorer gamers who don't have a lot of money to spend on game consoles, and games.

If they did I would probably buy one again. I've been playing PC games lately, but I've always enjoyed the 360. But we shall see...
