I refer to the more recent stuff that is coming out. The Oculus Rift has a Radeon r9 290 as the minimum system requirement - much higher than most requirements for today's AAA games.

I do think it does affect the ability and desire for people to go on forums. However, there are two upsides to it, in my opinion.
I don't think Facebook is sometimes the best medium for some niche communities.
I also think Facebook is a good leverage to promote your own website or forum.

I think the main obstacle with VR right now is the amount of graphical power it takes to run the thing - the current generation of consoles are nowhere near enough to do so. You have to render two screens that are 1080p+ in something like 90FPS, and a lot of GPUs aren't ready for that yet.
