It was definitely less of an issue in DBZ since you only had one or two filler episodes on average, 5 or 6 at most, and on truly rare occasions. One Piece fillers often lasted a dozen of episodes or so. And people are definitely more picky about what they watch now than they were when DBZ...

One Piece, or Dragon Ball? Both are pretty well-known, and have a knack for dragging 3mins scenes over multiple episodes. Which (imo) means a lot of people tried them, but dropped them because they got bored. Most likely One Piece 'cause the fillers hurt to watch, and its long ah.

Ghost Hunt was actually terrifying when I watched it (back in my teens). Yami Shibai also has some pretty good/spooky eps. I've fallen for a few jumpscares watching it.

I watched it back in 2004. A couple of friends and I decided to buy one series each then swap them around. I picked D.N.Angel and they got Hellsing and Trigun.

I'd pick Demon Slayer or Fire Force myself, but a lot would say Black Clover is the closest to your usual big 3's (long running shows). Jujutsu Kaisen is still sorta new, but its also the most popular currently running anime (not counting AoT).

I'd say the current big 3 are Attack on Titan, My Hero Academia and a third spot that could go to......... Demon Slayer, or Black Clover, or Fire Force or Jujutsu Kaisen.
