PS5 Console Rumors

Not to rain on anyone's joy, but I would totally dislike it if Sony releases the PS5 next year or the year after that. It just feels too soon. The PS4 is doing well, and for an average Joe like me who goes to work 5 days a week, I barely have enough time to play everything as it is. The PS5 coming out while I'm still enjoying the PS4 means I'll lag behind when it comes to the latest games and services, and I would feel terrible about this.

If the PS5 is getting released, I hope they do something like allow full backwards compatibility on the PS4 for at least the PS1 and PS2. That way, we get more out of the "older" system, and it will still have a distinct use and/or advantage. I dunno, just a random thought.

trust me, PS5 needs to be like a 2020 thing, but I have my doubts.

Just read from dualshockers and hokanko, wonder if this means Ps5 is going to be backward compatible:

[特許カン]SIE、ゲーム機の後方互換を実現する為にCPU自体が過去のCPUになりすます仕組みを特許として出願、発明者はサーニー氏ら : ■■速報@保管庫(Alt)■■

Sony has recently registered a new patent that could provide some interesting information on where the company is looking to go with future hardware after the PS4.

As reported by Hokanko-Alt, Sony filed a new patent with the Japanese Patent Office that allows a console CPU to determine whether or not the software it is reading is made for current hardware or past. If it learns that the software in question is from a previous device, the CPU then impersonates the old hardware CPU which would then allow that software to run on the device. Basically, it’s a mechanism that is solely suited to allowing backward compatibility for past generation video games.
