I feel Apple discontinuing the iPod is the main reason for the resurgence in sales. People who wanted an iPod may more likely buy the iPod before it is sold out at most stores.

I wonder if the microchip shortage is one of the reasons for Apple discontinuing iPod. The iPod Touch look like a decent portable iOS player for using iOS apps and playing iOS games if you can't afford an iPhone, and iPad.
