I write a new post, quote it, and compare the post count to the one on the first page on the forum. Then I tried again hours later, the difference was the same.

Actually I did do some topic pruning back when I had to move our massive DB to this hosting.

Well there's your solution. The database keeps these records. Just goto phpMyAdmin in the cPanel and search under the 'messages' table, or however it's done on this software, and search for the message_id 100000 and it'll show up.

EDIT: Says 81K for me.

Most likely because regular members can't see staff boards, topic-trash boards, etc.
