Wouldn't call myself religious, but I'm very spiritual. Firm believer in the higher self, but I won't get into that :p I believe in and respect the Earth and Universe as if they were gods. We exist only as a tiny fraction of an infinite, ever-expanding space that supports life all throughout it. Imagine Earth itself as a single, self-supporting, self-aware, receptive, living organism. Humanity like blood cells, or bacteria, or really, like cancer. The water and the wind like lungs and heart, mountains and planes the bones that hold it together.

I believe in our insignificance more than anything. A thousand kings have ruled this place, each believing they were king of kings or truly meant to "own" the land, or whatever. But all of them have died, and none of them are important now. The dinosaurs ruled once too, and they too are gone. Interesting, but not important. Not anymore. The Earth is still here though, part of the Universe. And one day we'll die, and one day the Earth will too, and the Sun, and a thousand other stars and planets. But the Universe will always be here, and that, my friends, is very, very real.

I don't need to be certain of why we're here, or how we got here. How all of this came to be... The big bang theory, God's 7 days... Answers to these things aren't important to me. Possibility is so much more powerful than pseudo-certainty.

My church is that of the stars and the rain, my saviour the Sun and the wind.

Holy fucking shit this. Seriously this is almost EXACTLY my views. I generally just say i'm agnostic because I frequently debate with myself on various religious topics, but this right here. This is something I firmly and have always, will always believe in.

I have said almost word per word that bit about planets. In fact last week or so I was in the shoutbox talking about how I would like to say I could generalize my beliefs as cosmicism, except that I hold things like planets in particularly high regard.

Heh. Glad i'm not the only one I guess. We are part of a whole and should act as such. This isn't a world of individuals fighting for their slice of pie, it's a world of structure and cooperation. Sadly things like capitalism make people believe otherwise.

I think the only difference between you and I is that these are my philosophical beliefs (mostly) and you attach more religious connotations to them.

Interesting to find someone with similar views in a place like this, but no, these are not my religious views. I have complex spiritual views, but I keep them to myself because the only person they need to be acknowledged by is me. I just don't need a church or a God to tell me I'm here for a reason and that everything will be okay.

I'm humanitarian if anything but I also like to think I know the difference between what seems important and what is important. I have big plans for the world and the way that it works. I'm no less heart, soul and voice than anyone else who's shaped history and I truly believe that the people are ready for a better way... And I believe I have a better way. Time will tell, though. Time always tells.

Well i'm a bit skeptical on people being ready. I can not for the life of me figure out any way you could get humans as a whole to cooperate without force, and even then we all know how well that works. Quite funny actually that the title of this topic is the main issue that always comes up as to why. That and with people supporting things like anarchy, and purposefully attempting to be detrimental or even against coming together and working for a larger goal. If you do have a way, maybe it is time to throw it out there. It's starting to look like (to me) the only way to have peace is to kill a good majority of the world off.

I often like to see myself fixing this problem as well. It's just that when I imagine fixing it, the methods usually aren't anything pleasant. I'd like to be a humanitarian but I just fail to see any way to keep people around (without messing everything up that is). Of course i'm not asking you to share your better way with us, I can understand exactly why you wouldn't want to, on a multitude of levels.

EDIT: Sounds like i'm saying i'm never detrimental to human kind. Which would be false. Because of this pessimistic attitude I have about this topic I engage in anti-progressive behavior all the time. Not purposefully really, but I do.

I used to believe that as well. I'm not interested in world peace, though. I am interested in democracy. Real democracy.

It's been said that power will always find a place to rest its head... Separate the power. If every major industry that the government has involvement in had its own government, which was elected by the people it would effect.. We wouldn't all be voting on one guy and expecting thm to make all the right decisions, and no one guy would have the power to do that. Sub-governments would have to co-operate with in a country for decisions to be made. An "oil party" and a "forestry/water party" would have to come to terms with things that an oil company would normally buy out the senate to avoid.. Absolute power corrupts absolutely, but if absolute power is impossible, then what? So long as no one decides that it needs to be "overseen" it wouldn't fail like communism did...

Obviously it's a bit more complicated than I'll bother to explain, and to try and put it into place.. is impossible. One would need the approval of a large percentage of the country and call a referendum, and force a change of the political system by nationwide demand, or it would be impossible. The politics of today's first-world countries are based off of the British and French monarchies. Canada's government "family tree" was set up by the King himself and still stands, except Britain's Crown is merely a tribute to heritage and holds no real power. The US's is, in all honest, a knockoff, so that the Americans felt unique during the Revolution. The state governments might have more power than in most countries, but the entire election system is still totally awful.

Floof, you might be the only one that understands what I'm getting at.

Wow. Yeah no I get the gist of what you are saying. Instead of me voting for Obama per say because I MOSTLY agree with his policies, I could vote exactly for how I want things to be dealt with. I want the environment to be dealt with like this, the economy like so etc. And the people i'm voting for would be specialists in their category they are running for. Not just a "jack of all trades" politician.

I'm surprised I've never heard of something like that before. You are getting a much more precise idea of what the people want by separating it that way.

This is so going off topic but hell, it's interesting.

And communism doesn't necessarily require absolute power you know. It's just that the wrong people take charge with it.

I was born and raised Roman Catholic, but as time went on, I became more relaxed and open-minded about several topics and became more agnostic. But upon further research, I found that the Wiccan religion is more my thing, so I have been starting my year of research before I make a descision.

Personally, I respect all religions, so long as people aren't pushing them on me. Which was what was done to me when I was living in a friends house and pressed to get my First Communion and Confirmation. But nonetheless, that's my view, somewhat. :zelda:

And the people in office would be able to actually fulfill what they actually intended to do in a much shorter amount of time, as they would have only a portion of the responsibilities that a president or prime minister has right now. Someone would have to represent the country as a whole, but this only has to be someone that can articulate the ideas of the individual parties to other countries.

religion just gives us hope. its what makes you want to do the right thing in life. it promises you happiness after death. I dont believe in anything myself. but if your happy with your higher power well thats your right as a human, just dont try to convince me theres a god or why i should be more like you or were going to have problems and im just going to start the real facts.

im a christian, but im not too religious, but i also dont bash others for being an ahteist, because i honestly dont care
