PSP Do you still use a PSP?

The PSP was a big step forward for Sony back in the day and provided the mobile gaming experience that was otherwise non existent at a time where smartphones either didn't exist or couldn't run 3D games and the same applied to tablets, so the PSP excelled. I remember all the "cool kids" or "rich kids" having PSP's back in school and looking back at them today, they were quite impressive, were.

Today a family member visited my house and their son, to my surprise, pulled out an old PSP. It surprised me when I realized just how thick and bulky it is and how the display is so dim, low-res and smaller than your average smartphone. The games understandably didn't look good compared to smartphone games today either. It just shows how far we have come in just 10-15 years.

Do you still play on one of these things? I know the PS Vita is still considered pretty good, but the unreasonably high prices of games ( at least where I live, ) a lack of games available and the much more affordable smartphones that are better in every way other than input methods kind of diminish their appeal. I guess they're now more of a relic or something less wealthy people use to satisfy their gaming needs.

The last time I booted up my original PSP was around a half year ago. I was happy it still worked, and it was a blast from the past, but the controls are still wonky. I actually tried to connect it to the internet and couldn't, the games were good and I might mess around on it now that I'm reminded of it's exist. To me the PSP is a much better gaming platform than any smartphone I've ever seen, because as awkward as one joystick is, none is worse.

I still have it and still have games to play for it, one of these days I'll dust it off.

We still have an old PSP that we kept for our kids to play with. My son is 6 years old and has been playing on it for the last year. He loves it. It is still very old school, but for him it is perfect. Will probably upgrade when he is a bit older.

I don't have a physical PSP, but I do use an emulator since PSP does have a decent library of good games. It's just that I don't feel myself owning/using a handheld as there is no point in my day when such would be viable, so it's just easier to hook up my computer to my TV and play via that.

I still have mine somewhere, but I only have a few games for it and never really played it a whole lot anyways, but it was fun when I did. I'm working on creating a game closet in my house for all of the my old consoles- I just can't bear the thought of throwing them all away or selling them, plus sometimes I do like to dig them out and play again. So maybe it'll go in there.

I still play my physical one from time to time, but its nowhere close to one of my main ways to play games. It's just easier to play what I would play on the PSP itself through emulator now.

I owned a PSP for quite some time, it had a pretty decent library of games, but I eventually felt the hardware becoming older as time went on. I recently picked up a PS Vita and the best part is probably the addition of the analog sticks. There have only been a few decent games released on the Vita, which is disappointing, but maybe we'll see some interesting titles in the future.

I did own a PSP back in the day, and while as far as mobile gaming went they was ground-breaking, I was never really a fan of the system if I'm being honest.

One of the biggest selling points of the PSP was that it had higher specs than anything else around at the time as far as mobile gaming was concerned, but it still couldn't compete with the desktop consoles, so was never going to sell the same amount.

Actually yes, I still own a PSP. Although, I have no idea where it is! I still remember some of the games I used to play on it. For instance, "Star Wars Battlefront", "Need For Speed", and "Ratchet & Clank". The last time I played it was almost 3 years ago. I hope I can find it soon because I want to sell it for a small profit.

I haven't really owned one, but I remember vividly the envy that I felt when I used to see people playing with them, as you have said, it was a new thing and for that reason, it was cool as hell. I think that the closest that I was to relatively new portable game consoles was the Nintendo ds, about 6-7 years ago, when I first bought it, I felt like the coolest boy, even if it was actually kind of common to own one of these back then.

Never owned a PSP. I was never really interested in the handheld gaming devices. I would much rather sit down and play games on a TV.

I had a Sony PSP and I spent a fair amount of time playing the Grand Theft Auto and God of War series on the device. The advent of the Nintendo 3DS and its ability to be backwards compatible and play the Nintendo DS(2DS) games basically caused me to put the Sony PSP in mothballs. I might bring it out twice a year but, since I have every current gaming console, there really isn't a need or a desire for me to play it more often.

I lost the charger for mine but I was still using it a year ago. I was using it to replay Crash Bandicoot though I guess now I can just wait for the remake ;). The main reason I still need my PSP is for a severely underrated game that not enough people have played. Level-5 (Professor Layton, Fantasy Life, Dark Cloud, and some other stuff) released a turn-based strategy RPG called Jeanne d'Arc. The plot was kind of goofy at times but the game was SO fun! Jeanne d'Arc is only on the PSP so I'll always keep the console around. I really do recommend the game, definitely try it if you like games like Disgaea and Final Fantasy Tactics.

At a lower resolution, you can hook a PSP up to a TV.
Hmm, never knew that before. Sounds like it'd be nice to play the PSP exclusives and also to have it when on the go... I think it also has the ability to remote play the PS4? May have to look into getting one of those then.

I never own one, Yes! I have used it and played on it years ago. I wished that I still own one. However getting games for it is not easy
