You're absolutely right about how poor most people are when it comes to getting their parenting of their kids up to standard. It's where everything goes to shit early on.I believe most studies have shown that video games have little affect on a person's emotional and violent status. Granted there was a recent study that linked violent games to increased violence in young children, but that study is under a lot of academic criticism for using incorrect methods to create results.
I personally don't believe young children should be playing MA, 18+ games (or even movies/TV) and that it is poor parenting when children are allowed to consume media not meant for them. But I don't get behind these causing the child to be violent and aggressive by simply consuming them.
I'd actually love to see a study that links consuming mature content as a child with parenting that doesn't actually teach proper manners and reactions to other situations. Overall, humans are fairly violent animals and it is culture/education that keeps us restrained. So how is that culture being taught when other parenting basics are not being completed?
Ya, I have always felt that the media's "Does Call of Duty make 5-year-olds Aggressive" is more of "WTF is a 5-year-old doing on Call of Duty". Do I believe you need to be 18 or older to play mature games, no, but there needs to be a parental cut-off at some pointYou're absolutely right about how poor most people are when it comes to getting their parenting of their kids up to standard. It shows now conflicted some of these parents can be. Without knowing that what works in the A aspect of the options you listed also applies to what they get in option B.Ya, I have always felt that the media's "Does Call of Duty make 5-year-olds Aggressive" is more of "WTF is a 5-year-old doing on Call of Duty". I also feel like the media's approach makes the situation worse. I often see parents that are die-hard of their children not watching gory war movies (18+), blood-filled horror shows(17+), or straight-up pornographic content(18+). But then have zero issues letting their kid play Call of Duty (17+) or Dead Island (18+).
