Tell me an example of when you think a video game crossed the line. I love video games but I think

Call of duty World at War did this when they showed real footage of atrocities. What if the person viewing this was a family member of the person being murdered.

If that was the case then it is very unlikely that said person would even be playing CoD games.

I'm sure they got permission from whoever recorded the footage. And these types of footage get played on media sites and the news every day so I doubt people would have such a problem. I think the torture mission in GTA V crossed the line a bit for a few people, mostly parents to be fair. It was a bit difficult to play for me but that's mainly because I'm not comfortable pulling peoples teeth out.

When Nintendo butchered battle mode in Mario Kart 8, a line was crossed. Looks like they're gonna cross back over it to make amends in the deluxe version.

I have to say, even though it was one of my favorite games to play, this was something that always bothered me. I always wondered why they showed that vs any other video that was recorded during the war.

Hi all! I'm a fan of video games, especially consoles. My favorite game is Gta IV. I'm very excited to find this forum, and I hope to spend a good time!
The Gta IV is one of my favouritd, but also is a "crossing line" game from manu points of view!

GTA 4 has a DLC where a cutscene shows an old guy's penis. Full frontal. It was gross because they really put a large amount of effort on the detail and the buildup. The guy was getting a massage and was talking to your character; you can slightly see the penis in the mirrors of the room, but at the end of the scene he just stands up in front of the camera and shows it all. Burned my eyeballs, that.

I only found this out the other day but one of the games I got (The Witcher) came with a set of porn in a zip file that you could download from GOG. I don't know what the game was rated but yeah a little too far IMO. I haven't played the game so I don't know if it in the game itself though.

LMAO did that really happen? Maybe it was a prank made by the uploader. I know there are sex scenes in all the Witcher games, but to actually send a porn file with the game? Come on, that can't be true.

It can't be that bad. Witcher 1's graphics were terrible for its age, and that's the reason most people won't play it. It seriously can't be that bad. But still, pretty hilarious that you got that. I bought Witcher 1 too and I don't think there was a file attached to it like that.

Have you got that on GOG or steam? If steam you can get the CD key, feed it to GOG and get the game + all the extras.

Steam. I loved Witcher 3 and I wanted to support the game devs so I bought all their products. It's been over a year but I haven't touched Witcher and Witcher 2, but I figure I'll get to it eventually. Sure I'll try to get it to GOG, I want to see what the big fuss is all about. And I say it again, it can't be that bad.

So I went to Reddit and found the pics without having to go to GOG. It's not that bad. Not porn, but they're nude photos you usually see in adult magazines and all that. All in all, I stick with my original comment: it wasn't that bad.

I guess that the person who told me just overblown the whole thing then :)

Haha GOG is actually owned by the devs of The Witcher series.

Maybe it's just my own sick mind at work here but I honestly can't think of any moment that a video game has crossed the line. I think video games are art, and because I feel that art is sometimes supposed to invoke feelings of anger and outrage, it's hard for me to say that a game has ever gone too far. I mean at most I can think of some morally questionable moments such as the "No Russian" mission in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. But even that was done in a way that demonstrates the horrors of terrorism and war. It wasn't slaughter just for the sake of slaughter.

I was expecting some "cross the line" moments out of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, judging by the way they cut the first trailer and how Hideo Kojima described it would tackle taboo topics. Boy was that a disappointment when there was basically nothing controversial in that game.

Really? Huh, makes sense since I saw a package deal they had where they even included playboy spreads of one of the characters. I thought that was a bit overkill but since they own it, hey, they can do whatever they want. I'll try and buy more games there then, thanks a lot for the heads up.

Lmao, well said. That was truly unacceptable.
I can't say anything truly obscene comes to mind, but I'm personally more on the lenient side about it, as I find censorship excessive in most cases: I see it as rather hilarious, instead. I remember that they edited one of the Inklings' gesture in Mario Kart 8 because it resembled the bras d'honneur gesture. Here is the edit (original one on the right).

There's not a lot of it for me. The games that were banned back then (i.e. Manhunt, Thrill Kill) were actually pretty decent if you compare it to today's games. I guess what would be crossing the line for me is Rapelay. The game is about you know what and it is the most disgusting thing for me because it's just not right. It's not violent or anything, but I think it's disgusting to take advantage of women, even so far as making a game that simulates this crime just for their sick human needs.

Call of Duty was the first franchise that came to mind for me as well. I think it was Modern Warfare II which had a mission where you walk through a mall and shoot as many innocent civilians as possible. While I do think that could potentially be a line crossed, the developers do offers players the option to skip the mission due to its controversial nature. A great idea on their part, of course, to judge them as you will. I played the mission because I assumed it added important things to the campaign story, but I felt sick doing it.
