Square Enix said alongside its latest financial results that Final Fantasy 16 did not meet its sales goals, and also reported a 66% drop in profit.

According to Bloomberg, these has resulted not only in the share price decline but also several analysts cutting their price target for the publisher and Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Asset Management – a long-term investor in Square Enix – reducing its holdings in the publisher.

If they just went back to the look and game mechanics of FF X, I think they would be doing fine. Look at Dragon Quest, they barely change anything and that series prints money.

Indeed. They cannot get rid the core rpg mechanics of FF. That's the heart of the franchise. Ff 16 deviated too much. It's no longer FF. All Yoshi-P and SE former be excited guy's fault.
 
Pc version optimization is bad and cutscenes can only run at 30 fps.

  • This makes over 90% of Steam users unable to reach 60 FPS because of the optimization issues.
  • Only 6% of users on Steam have an RTX 4070 or a better GPU, making the game limited for the masses.
Square Enix doesn’t seem to have put too much effort into optimization. Therefore, visually more stunning games that should be much more demanding on the system are easier to run than Final Fantasy 16.

So I'm about half way through the game now, my thoughts...

This isn't Final Fantasy, feels like a more tame dark souls kind of game set in with KH mechanics.
Summon battles and their music are great though, I do love it. Really itching that FF 9 love I had growing up.
Not sure why they couldn't put a chocobo theme while riding one in this game.
Story so far seems good, but still not feeling that Final Fantasy.

Indeed that's one of the problems with the game. It's not a mainline FF.

The set pieces during summon battles are good spectacles but it's all basically on rails with heavy dose of QTEs.
Also it's definitely waay waaay waaay easier than Dark Soul, it's not a tame Dark soul imo. No real elemental weakness, elemental properties do not matter, only for the looks.
