I'll never understand why you had to take english in every grade of public school. Most of the time your just reading books written by people.

Because of that.
I suspect it is so you can become a better communicator by reading and writing. However, during my final years of school I took linguistics instead of English, so it was more of a study of the English language (such as its origins), opposed to studying how to use the language.

I honestly rather take another language (japanese) than to continue learning about English.

Learning other languages are supposed to help you with your first language. They also say it is harder to learn a new language past the ago of 12 I believe.

I don't know why I don't skip the first day of class in college. All it is talking about the syllabus and what the teacher will do. Nothing else happens.
