Interest in buying the 3DS dropped among consumers prior to launch?

I stick to my prior stance of the system. The 3DS is nothing without a decent game, every gaming system applies too. But thankfully SOME good games are out that make people want it.

Zelda OoT has helped with sales, that i don't doubt. But I don't feel that its quite enough to reverse the sales problem. Not completely anyway. Its just not enough. Once Mario Kart, Super Mario, Animal Crossing 3DS, Kid Icarus and the other big name name games start being released, THATS when the consumers will gobble up the 3DS like a ravenous Yoshi at an all-you-can-eat Goomba buffet!

Heh, I'm one of the people waiting out on buying a 3DS, mostly because I wanted that damn red colour, and also because I figured I'd try to get a deal and bundle it with Mario Kart or whatever. I don't mind the wait to be honest, but yeah, if I bought it now (which I could), I wouldn't be doing much with it.

Ocarina of Time was probably the main reason I got the 3DS, if it wasn't going to come out, I wouldn't have bought when I did. I know a couple people who bought them the day OoT3D came out. Like it was said earlier, as soon as more games (and better ones) come out, sales will rocket. The thing with this system is that it's expensive for a handheld, and being that way, parents aren't as likely to buy it for their kids, which is usually a huge part in sales. I've never seen a little kid with a 3DS, and it will be pretty rare if you do.

Well Ocarina of Time has certainly helped 3DS sales. The week after its release in Japan, the 3DS was finally the best selling portable console there again.
I think this is fairly good proof that all the 3DS needs is some good games and it will sell well.

Zelda has definitely helped the sales, no doubt there, but I wouldn't go so far as to say that it's reversing the issue of its less-than-satisfactory sales figures. It's only one game. Amazing as it is, there are few people who will buy the system solely for the game. Sure, there are your diehard fans who will, and people who have the money to throw around, but most people-a lot of them being parents investing in a very expensive toy for their kids- would rather buy the system when there are more and better games for it. By the time the holiday season comes around, sales will boost again. That just goes without saying. It won't be just because of the holiday season (though that'll be the main factor, I think), but also because there will be a lot of new, core games out by then.

That's sort of my point. I'm not saying that Ocarina of Time will fix things all on its own. But I'm saying all that's needed is more good games (note games, plural) to improve sales. There is nothing inherently wrong with the hardware; it is mainly lack of games that is hurting console sales.
