Hello there!
The news said today that internet will be gone in 10 years in because of overload. Everybody will have internet and the whole www (WorldWideWeb) will crash. That could give some heavy problems for the economy. Do you believe that?
I can't. In 10 years, there will someone have invented something against that and it won't happen...
What do you guys think?

Where did you hear that from? Not sure how accurate this info is (maybe a rumor), but as far as I know the Net is still changing everyday.

It's Bul***t, the internet grows fast yes but it won't ever overload because we will just add more and better servers.
I do believe that at some point content managers shall appear and just delete all spammish/usless stuff from the web.

And the thing that will really save the internet shall be DNA computers or Quantum computers.
DNA because they can store unimaginably more data, check this out, and quantum because they are a lot faster.

I think it is unlikely, but if everyone right now uses the internet to stream 1080P or higher resolution HD videos and use it to download very large files all at once the net might slow down the internet a little bit.

Twitter which is a huge site used to break when too many people are twetting a lot at once.

Sort of like at school during lunch. All the students go to the computer lab to watch Youtube videos and play flash games which make surfing the web very slow if the connection is slow.

this is a interesting subject really as it could happen, but as I don't know what keeps the back bone of the internet (www) going I really can't say.

Also to staff, please take notice what topic is in which forum as this topic is clearly in the wrong forum. *moves*

If this really happens, then a lot of people might be sad.

But, according to the above posters, there are no source links, so we can't believe you.

I actually saw on some news show possibly CNN or BBC which talked about an Internet Overload Like this article ny the BBC (British Broadcasting Channel) http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/programmes/click_online/6756899.stm

Thanks for sharing the link.

I was unaware. We should all take some time offline so that this might not happen in the future...

Agreed, Imagine if we all live in one time zone and all woke up at the same time. The Internet would probably be very slow due to all the Youtube happening at once.

If you look at Twitter which is a very high traffic site. It went down a few times due to too much tweeting. I think it is not possible for the entire internet to go down, but some of the more popular sites like Youtube, Facebook, Twitter, etc might go down if the entires earth population uses it at once.

Like how some websites go offline once you use too much bandwidth and overload its server or the hosting company cuts you off because you only paid for 50GB of bandwidth and you used it all.

I got a feeling if the internet overloaded people will just watch more TV or use their cellphone to talk to people.

Another concern about the internet is "web masters not making money" since if websites are not profitable, many people will just close their sites down if the websites are losing money by not having enough cash to pay for hosting and making money from advertising is not very profitable for many websites because of people not donating, buying stuff, clicking on ads, or buying ad space from websites compared to the amount of money it cost to keep a website up.

if the internet crashes then young people who live by it will panic and turn the world upside down.

In theory, you can still make your own small-network since the internet is just a huge network which acts like an Internet for sharing files like those Gaming Parties which PC gamers go to.
Koreans who love PC gaming tournaments so much.

The problem would be not being able to find many people you trust to be coming into your house to play PC games or share files over a network or by USB at your house since they might hit you over the head with a bat and take all your stuff while you fainted.

People will just go to internet cafes to share files and game with fellow nerds since inviting random nerds into your home can be dangerous, and awkward, so public places with networks are best.

I bet there are tons of random people to trade anime episodes if your town have a large anime fanbase.

I doubt if this would happen. I think by that time, there will be great technological advances that will ensure that the internet continues to work and improve everyone in their daily lives.

I read online that more people are subscribing to Netflix, and other streaming HD online video services. Plus, Youtube now offers 1080P video steaming for videos uploaded in HD. Most newer pirated bit torrent movies, anime, and other videos are also in HD

The internet is also used for voice calls, video chat, and other forms of streaming communications.

Plus, there are a lot of online gamers these days that can use a lot of internet bandwidth.

If suddenly everyone ditches their cable television and watches or download HD videos off the web at once, I got a feeling the internet will be overloaded in some areas if the internet service providers do not have enough money or man power to make their internet faster.

The internet is quickly becoming more dominated by video, audio, and gaming which tends to use more bandwidth then text and pictures.

When I attended school, the internet was always slow during lunch hours because a lot of people were watching Youtube, gaming, and doing other tasks which slowed down the internet because too many people were using one connection for watching tons of videos online.

can the internet really be destroyed? I believe we humans have added so much to it, that even if all the computers and tech in the world was destroyed, the internet would still exist.

I think third world countries and smaller farm towns who mostly use dial up and slower internet be left behind when it comes to video and flash games site or really laggy if everyone use their dial up connection to watch YouTube and go on New Ground.

I would have to say that the internet will never disappear / crash. People that are experts in TCP/IP or at least knowledgeable will now that there are certain constraints at the moment with IPv4 and that is why IPv6 came about.
