I feel it can be annoying that some more expensive laptops like the 2017 Apple Macbook Pro don't have upgradeable/removable SSD drives because the SSD is soldered/glued to the motherboard on the laptop.
But, I'm fine with cheaper $100 to $250 new laptops having non-upgradeable because the price is low, so the laptop maker most likely physically solder/glue the storage chip onto the motherboard to be able to sell the laptop for $250 or less. Most cheap laptops also come with a SD memory card slot, and 2 or more USB ports so adding more space is not hard to do.
