Do you see Kinect getting anywhere near a decent level of support now for Xbox One? I really highly doubt it. They had to use second party studios to make games for it anyway and they don't want Rare to only focus on Kinect games. I highly doubt money is to be made in creating games for this. Will they bother?
 
The second the kinect was no longer need for Xbox one, it was dead. I think Rare, the kincet game makers have been shifted towards other things.


All I can say is Nintendo road the motion sensor train to the end and by the time Sony and MS got on, it was just in time for the crash.
 
Let me rephrase the question some...

Was the kinect ever really alive?

I mean the Kinect, at best, had far more practical applications when not even plugged into an xbox. (Scientists and researchers were doing far more interesting things with it than Microsoft was...) And realistically very few games were enriched by it. (Some made good use of the microphone aspect to allow squad commanding. If memory serves Mass Effect 3 allowed you to use it to command your squadmates... But at that same time that could also have been achieved by a headset too so the necessity of the kinect is kinda lowered.)

And most of the kinect games weren't all that amazing or special. I mean how many of them were even really good games? (Fun and not just shovelware designed to grab the last bits of cash from people who didn't know any better?)
 
I don't think it will be around much longer. This was Microsoft's attempt at trying too beat Nintendo with motion controls.
 
I think the Kinect will still be around, but not as active as many years ago where there were more game releases for the Kinect, and more games which use Kinect. I think some Xbox exclusive games like the Forza racing series use Kinect.
 
I think Microsoft studios may still make Kinect features  built-into their popular games like Halo, Fable, Forza, and Gears of War.

Casual games for Xbox like Angry Birds, and Fruit Ninja will still use Kinect

Kinect maybe better for very young kids to use  to play a game than a controller because of young kids' small hands. I think very young kids are also not suppose to use controllers because they can break the controller, and put the broken parts like batteries, buttons, and joysticks which they broken off in their mouth, ear, or nose.
 
The Kinect may have some success on the PC because of the many billions of PC users, so there probably be a few million to hundreds of thousands of users who are interested in Kinect and motion gaming.

Almost everyone in North America, Europe, Asia, Australia, and parts of Africa have access to a Windows, Mac, or Linux PC or laptop, and there are many different types of gamers on PC who like different types of games like Flight Simulators, Sims, MMORPG, Real Time Strategy, and Puzzle games which are not as popular on consoles compared to RPG, Action, adventure, and shooters which are popular on consoles, and PC as well.

I think the Kinect could be popular with Smartphone, and Tablet users if MS makes Kinect work on mobile devices because of the amount of people who owns a smartphone and tablet. The Kinect could be a good controller for certain types of mobile games like Clash of Clans, Tower Defense, and games where you need to move things around a lot.
 
I think one big problem with the Xbox One's Kinect is the high price of $159 for a standalone Kinect without an Xbox which is expensive for a device which is mostly a webcam with a few added features like microphone, and better motion tracking.

If the price drops to $50 or less, more gamers may get one, and when there are more gamers with Kinect, more game makers may make more Kinect games for them.

I think it has a market with young kids who are too young for a controller because young kids have small hands, and throw things like the Wiimote at a TV. It may also have a market with people who exercise or dance a lot where using a camera controller is better than a regular controller which can get in the way of them dancing, or exercising in front of the TV.

Microsoft has a long history of hanging on to things well past their expiration dates. A big motivation to keep going could be trying to capture some of what made the Wii so popular with casual gamers who don't usually go near consoles. That being said, it doesn't look like they are doing a great job in that regard.

Personally I hope they get some good games out for it. My wife loves it, and it is the only time I can get her interested in any kind of game.
 
Was kinetic all that popular to begin with? There was a big hoo-har about it when it first came out but since then it seems to have died.

Seems like they tried to go into a niche that was already close to having it's life support turned off.
