NFTs

Read from Kotaku and Venture Beat, Warren Spector on NFTs:

Spector, the co-creator and designer behind plenty of beloved PC games including Deus Ex, recently sat down and talked to VentureBeat about his career and future. During that interview, he was asked about NFTs and the blockchain. And he didn’t really mince words about how he felt, telling the outlet that the entire concept was just “ridiculous.”

“Here’s where I’m going to get in trouble,” Spector told VentureBeat. “I’m literally going to have people giving me hell about what I’m about to say, but I really don’t think I care. NFTs are ridiculous.”

He continued, explaining that he didn’t understand why anybody would want to “climb on that bandwagon.” He also said the idea of people owning virtual goods that can be unlimitedly and instantly reproduced was a bad idea, questioning who would think otherwise.

“So NFTs, I have no interest,” summarized Spector.

I thought that was the whole point of NFT's though that they created in a way that it cannot be duplicated and there's only one original and it's always traceable to who is the real owner. It's kind of like original oil painting from the greats Leonardo da Vinci or Vincent Van Gogh...people duplicate their works all the time but it's the originally pieces that are worth millions.

Blizzard on NFTs, read from gamesindustry biz:

Blizzard president Mike Ybarra has denied suggestions that the company has plans for NFTs after Twitter users posted about a Blizzard survey gauging their interest in NFTs.

"No one is doing NFTs," Ybarra wrote in response to a tweet from VGC's Andy Robinson about the survey, which was conducted by YouGov.

The survey itself was discussed on Twitter by Blizzard players, with one player including a screencap of a question asking respondents to indicate their interest in a number of topics, including "play-to-earn gaming" and "NFTs" as two separate topics.

Reggie likes NFTs, read from VGC:

Fils-Aimé used Nintendo title Animal Crossing as an example, stating that he believed it could appeal to players if they were able to profit from some of their creations in the game.

“I’m a believer in blockchain,” he said. “I think blockchain as a technology is really compelling. I’m also a believer in the concept of ‘play to own’ within video games.

“I say this as a player where I may have invested 50 hours into a game, 100 hours into a game, or there are some games where I’ve invested 300 hours… when I’m ready to move on to something else, wouldn’t it be great to monetise what I built?

“I bet I’d have some takers here today if I wanted to sell my Animal Crossing island from the latest Nintendo Switch version. I’d like to be able to monetise that. Blockchain technology embedded in the code and into development would enable me to do that.”

He added: “So I’m a believer in the technology and where it’s headed. But I say that in the context of, it needs to make sense for the player, it can’t just be an approach by the developer that it’s interesting or a way for them to make more money.

“In the end, it’s got to be good for the player, but I see an opportunity.”

There goes my respect for him.

I want to use my Art and turn it into the NFT. It can be pretty good for the content and also good for the earning something passively. I hope to get into this full time and spend time as if there is going to be ajob on this. But for now just learning the digital art and maybe some day get this into NFTs.

NFT is any digital media (videos, digital art, digital illustration, digital photo, etc.) on the blockchain. NFT makes it easy for the creator to be identified as the creator of the digital media. People buy NFT like they buy paintings, they thing NFT is a collection or an investment.

Latest Square Enix boss' comment on NFTs, translated by Siliconera:

Square Enix further revealed its intentions to incorporate NFTs into its business model in some tangible way. This includes the development of “blockchain games and entertainment,” and, most notably, the production of NFTs that will focus on stories. This goal is included in Square Enix’s medium-term strategy. On the topic of turning Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy into blockchain games, Square Enix President Yosuke Matsuda said this:

It’s still a bit too early to consider making Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy blockchain games, and we’re not at the stage of thinking about that yet.

I feel like they've started thinking of incorporating NFTs in games slightly too late. The fad has died down a bit, you don't see many NFT promoters on social media as much now
