They aren't looking to license their titles out, they want to make movies themselves. Thoughts?

Eh, 50/50 right now. Can anyone mention an actually decent movie based on a video game yet? I can't. It'll be interesting to see what they come up with, and its a good form of diversification for Nintendo - they have a lot of characters to cash in on in this form.

Well Nintendo is in Japan, Japan home of anime! The fact that titles like Zelda or Metriod haven't been turned into epic anime by now is nothing short of a crime.

I think a Super Smash Bros. movie could work, and I know that there was heaps of talk of a Legend of Zelda show on Netflix. I'd personally love to see a live-action Fire Emblem show, like a milder version of GoT. That would be a great show, and I would definitely try to watch it. It has so much potential.

I'm also in two minds over this idea aswell. It's not that I don't think that Nintendo could make a success of making their own movies, I just think really they could do with investing that money into their gaming arm of the company as at the end of the day, that's what put Nintendo on the map in the first place but recently they've been overtaken somewhat by Sony and Microsoft.

I'd rather see Nintendo compete against the Xbox and the PlayStation 4, than queue up and watch a movie made and released by Nintendo anyway.

This is the right idea. I think that all of the major game companies should so the same. The reason why the new Superman/Batman and X-Men/Avengers movies have turned into such lucrative catalogues is because they own all of the back stories and can represent their characters better than any other company. This is the way to go for all of them. keep trailblazing.

Was Pokemon owned by Nintendo? As they've already had quite a string of successful films.

I was just going to mention Zelda, as that's been something I've been thinking of since I played The Oracle of Time way back in like the year 2000!
I think it's a great idea, personally. I mean, even the classics like Mario, Yoshi and Donkey Kong have their appeal I suppose.

I'm not really sure how I feel about the fact that making movies out of video games, it's actually becoming a thing right now... I think that is okay, you know, at the end of the day, it's all about entertainment industry, which movies and video games are part of, you'll never know, as everything in life there are good and bad things, just because it's a movie based on a video game doesn't really make it instantly good or bad, I think it depends on how they manage it, I guess.

When I heard this, I was really worried. The original Super Mario Bros movie was so bad and I would hate for a bad Nintendo game to come out and turn people away from the games. After thinking about it, Nintendo movies nowadays would have to be at least passable as they are always so worried about how their characters are used. I imagine they would be very careful to not have another disaster like the Super Mario Bros movie again.

You know what, I have said recently that I feel they should branch out into something else while they got their act together with their game consoles. So that way their characters remain relevant to audiences while building up more casual fans for their brand. I'm not saying they could make real movies but something like pixar does which in my opinion could really benefit them in the future. Let's just hope this doesn't turn into another Mario Bros flop.

I have to agree, I have not found a movie that was based off of the video game that was better, or at least GOOD. I saw "The Prince OF Persia", complete disaster. This new Assassins Creed movie that's coming out, I don't care to go see it because I don't even like many of the actors I saw in the trailer. The music in the trailer made it no better.

Well, Sega gave out Sonic for these purposes. We have a sonic movie, sonic american Saturday at morning animations and even a generic sonic Anime. Nintendo already gave out Mario rights for a movie that pretty much ended up being awful (even with dennis hopper as bowser). Maybe they would perform better with making the movies themselves since they know how to convey the franchises to please the audience (I hope).

Didn't Disney just close their gaming studio? It's harder than these companies seem to think changing from one entertainment medium to another. I have no reason to be optimistic about about any big screen adaption of any of Nintendo's franchises right now and this move is very dubious.

I would be really interested in seeing Nintendo come out with movies! Some kind of Zelda movie would be awesome. I think they should stick to animated movies though - turning it into something with real people seems like a slippery slop that ends in horrible reviews.

Few movies from video games have been any proficient at least not the ones that I have seen with my own eyes. I would dote visually perceiving a film about some of the most iconic game figures that goes into an in depth story line. If the directors were take there time with some of our most beloved characters they would optically wow us with the visuals that are available for entertainment purposes. Instead of leaving us to discern the most familiar stories revamped in a less than desirable way.
