Falcom just announced a new Trails Game, translated by Gematsu:

The Legend Of Heroes: Trails of the Beginning
rItiJgj.jpg

For PlayStation 4, the latest entry in the Trails series of The Legend of Heroes games. An “ambitious title and turning point that will lead to the series’ conclusion,” it is planned for release in summer 2020 in Japan.

This is the end, as well as the beginning—.
The whole of the Empire was weakened in the disaster known as the “Great Twilight.” Thanks to the efforts of the heroes, the land of Zemuria pulled through the crisis, and a new fate has been spun, moving the story towards its “end point.”

The game is set on the continent of Zemuria after the Great Twilight. The three main characters and their actions all over the continent cause troubled destinies to become intricately intertwined.

One is a “hero.”
The Legend of Heroes: Hajimari no Kiseki

One is a “liberator.”
The Legend of Heroes: Hajimari no Kiseki

One is a “hermit.”
The Legend of Heroes: Hajimari no Kiseki

The Legend of Heroes: Hajimari no Kiseki features plenty of new systems that utilize the strengths of the Trails series, including a “Cross Story” system that allows players to switch between three routes at will to depict stories happening in parallel from different perspectives; over 50 playable characters, including some new faces; and expansive “Episode” scenarios that delve into the backgrounds of each character.

How do the people of Crossbell feel as they prepare to be independent once more? What thoughts pass through the minds of the people of the Empire who lost their mighty pillar? And what is the agenda of the society Ouroboros, whose Grandmaster decreed that the “Orpheus Final Plan” be advanced to a new stage…?

Alright CM2, break this down for me, this game must be another branch in the story line that the whole trails of series is telling?

This should mainly take place after Trails Of Cold Steel IV's true ending I believe, Cold Steel IV has multiple endings depending on what you do, from the stuff I read. As Crossbell is independent once more. Though there could be playable flashback stuffs too to explain Ouroboros' stuff.

Read Kondo's comments on their new game engine, translated by Siliconera:

Toshihiro Kondo: “A new game engine is currently in development in-house. However, it’ll be a while until we have a title that uses it. The Phyre Engine used for The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel was made by Sony, but [the new engine] will be markedly improved. We’ve had long discussions within the company for a while, but I’d like to see how things go after integrating a new engine.”

More Intel from Degenki Online translated by Dualshockers:

In Dengeki Online’s video interview, Toshihiro Kondo first explained how the title “Hajimari no Kiseki” reflects how the Kiseki/Trails series is fully entering its second half, and this game is the beginning of the end of the series.
The main artwork for Hajimari no Kiseki shows the Grandmaster of Ouroboros. It’s the first time her face has been revealed.
Kondo explained they decided to fully reveal her to show fans Falcom is resolved to reveal the biggest mysteries of the series starting now. The development team seemingly made this artwork of the Grandmaster for a while now, and they suggested to Kondo they should publish it for Hajimari no Kiseki‘s reveal.

Next, Kondo explained that the three stories of Hajimari no Kiseki begin sometime after
Olivert’s wedding ceremony shown
at the end of Trails of Cold Steel 4. The three stories will have slightly different starting points in time, but they take place during the same timeframe.

As for the three protagonists, Kondo said without naming them that we know who they are, except for one, hinting at “The Hermit” who should be this masked character. Hajimari no Kiseki actually won’t reveal their identity right away, and it’ll be the first time in the Kiseki series we’ll play a protagonist without knowing their true identity. Moreover, there were absolutely no hints in the series until now regarding the identity of the masked character and the heterochromia girl accompanying them, so it’s useless to try and guess who they are. Though, the fact that they’re wearing a mask in itself might be a hint. In any case, these two characters will be extremely important in the story starting now.

When asked about whether the three protagonists start their stories in three different regions of the Zemuria continent or not, Kondo only answered that they initially start in places far away from each other, hinting that they might meet at some point. The development team wish to fully use the three points of views, hinting that assuming the protagonists do meet, they won’t stay together.

Hajimari no Kiseki has over 50 playable characters. Kondo explained that some of these are characters who only appeared as enemies until now, and some are brand-new characters. These new characters will be important for the future developments of the story. The title being Hajimari, Beginnings, means we’ll see the beginning of these new characters’ stories. And of course, among these new characters, some are linked to all the previous characters and story elements brought up in the series until now. Fans who played the whole series will think “oh, they’re connected that way” when seeing these new characters.

Hajimari no Kiseki will depict how Crossbell will become independent again, and there are many locations linked to these events we’ll see in 3D for the first time in the game.

While Trails in the Sky the 3rd is also called a “Gaiden game”, Hajimari no Kiseki will be completely different. Just like Trails in the Sky the 3rd, Hajimari no Kiseki is setting the stage for what will come next, the stories focusing on the eastern part of Zemuria. However, Hajimari no Kiseki has tons of content along with very important story events depicted in it. Kondo initially planned Hajimari no Kiseki as a smaller Gaiden game but it is now a fully-fledged game. As such, we won’t call it a “Gaiden game” anymore now to avoid the implication that its small content-wise.

As for the Episodes focusing on each playable character, Kondo said we’ll get to see many characters who were involved with each protagonist of the series until now. We’ll also get to see characters we haven’t seen in a while, showing us how they are faring now.

Toshihiro Kondo also gave more details on Hajimari no Kiseki‘s Cross Story system. While you can freely switch protagonists at any time, at some points in the game, you might get forced to switch. Because one protagonist’s story might not advance until you’ve progressed in another protagonist’s storyline.

Regarding Hajimari no Kiseki‘s battle system, it’ll be based on Trails of Cold Steel 4‘s battle system, along with new elements. Most notably, Falcom is planning to polish the battle system to make it easy to use more characters. They’re thinking about how to make a flashy battle system to keep up with the over 50 playable characters.

At the end of the video interview, Toshihiro Kondo mentioned how Falcom is already working on the game following Hajimari no Kiseki, so fans won’t wait too long for it. He previously mentioned months ago that Falcom is working on two Kiseki games, so no surprise there. He also teased that this next game will have many new elements, both regarding its story and its game systems.

More intel translated by Siliconera from Ryokutya 2089:

  • “It was previously announced that Hajimari is the beginning of the end as a restart that leads to the series conclusion. This wasn’t just a message for the fans but one for the staff as well.”
  • “This time it’s not about working along plans as we’ve done until now, but story and systems are just some of the new things that we must think of.”
  • “The story of Hajimari is also a grand prologue. We’re aiming to make it a hub that connects to all the series up until now.”
  • “For this reason, we’ll work with things we couldn’t fit into past titles like Crossbell’s independence, or countries and areas that were only mentioned by name.”
  • “We also plan to show what happened after the Calvard presidential election.”
  • “There’s an after-story for the characters that appeared in Erebonia.”
  • “There’s the main scenario featuring the three protagonists. There are also flashback-like episode scenarios. The main scenario volume is about 70 to 80 percent of Trails of Cold Steel IV.”
  • “You’ll form parties of five to six characters on venture all the places. We’ve also prepared a new system for transportation.”
  • “The battle pace doesn’t change much from the Trails of Cold Steel series, but battle strategies are different thanks to new character Crafts.”
  • “There’s a full-blown Magical Alisa shooting game. You can also enjoy story elements.”
  • “The girl carrying the plush is basically “3 to 9” (Name of books that appear in Trails of Cold Steel IV).”
  • “There’s a character who’ll act as the backbone to what ties together next.”
  • “We have another development line already working on what’s after The Legend of Heroes: Hajimari no Kiseki. It might have cooperative elements.
  • “I hope to finish it before my time for retirement arrives (laughs).”
  • “The game engine for Hajimari is fundamentally the same as The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel IV. The next series that is simultaneously in the works will use a new engine. Everything including the graphics has evolved considerably. We can’t show anything yet but I personally want to show it as soon as possible. And of course, Hajimari no Kiseki has evolved from Trails of Cold Steel IV.”
  • “For Ao/Zero no Kiseki on PS4, it would be difficult for a save data bonus from PSP. We’re thinking about having something with Hajimari.
  • “The feedback we got from Ys IX: Monstrum Nox‘s motion capture tech is implemented.”

You have to look forward to how these will look once they start doing PS5 games.

Indeed. And with them using motion capture now, character animations will be great.

All this crossbell stuff takes before Cold Steel right?

Some stuff before, some stuff at the same time with Cold Steel, like the azure tree stuff. But the ones from the latest tweets, I think, after cold steel IV.
