I'm now up to creating basic backgrounds for my Paper Mario Comic project, so here's an example I've got. I'm going to have different worlds with different themes I think, but here's a basic, "gradient colour" theme with nice square outlines. Tell me how it looks!

I don't think I've ever seen Bowser use a semicolon!

I think I want the dirt a bit darker, other than that--looks great! I love the trees, great attention to detail there! I am excited to see your future work. :]

that looks great!almost like the real Super Paper Mario

I like the trees, but the pattern in the sky bugs me, and I'd greatly prefer a proper background like in the picture wasabi jellyfish posted.

Okay, I'll work on the background then. I'm trying to avoid going into a GREAT amount of detail like in the games so that the computer won't have problems drawing the stage, but yeah, I do need to slap in a few more lines and whatnot.

I may as well go download that Super Paper Mario texture pack I found and trace some more, heh.

Alright, this should look much better:

The only image imported into Flash here is the background, as I just can't trace that. Everything else is a resizeable vector image, which not only offers more flexibility, but lowers the file size.

Okay, so because both of my once reliable SWF file hosting sites have been experiencing difficulty (MegaSWF is still there, but I don't want my work to be public-public just yet, only public to who I want it to be), here's a link that will hopefully work.

It's how I'm going to control dialogue basically; with the mouse. All events in this game will probably be mouse based for ease of use, so no dodgy keyboard+mouse combos, I'm sticking with one control and sticking to it.

Just click once Bowser stops talking to have Mario animate. It then loops back. This shows off not only my animations and text effects, but just how flexible the animations are thanks to code, i.e. the animations just run until I change them with code, no timeline animating in Flash whatsoever! All the animations are contained in one big "box", and inside that box is a walking animation that's in a "box", an idle animation in a "box" and so on.

When I say box, I mean something like this "folder structure":

Mario:
-MarioIdle:
---MarioIdleAnimation
-MarioWalk:
---MarioWalkAnimation
-MarioJump:
---MarioJumpAnimation

This goes for Bowser too, and is basically allowing me to have greater control over who does what when.

I agree with Wasabi. Nintendan's Awesomeness increased 30% with this!

I was going to work on this more today, but no, the computer crapped out. So instead, I'll tell you what I plan on doing.

Hopefully I can make a small, but fun, turn-based battle that combines Paper Mario with Mario & Luigi. Mazza can either jump, use his hammer or eat one of five mushrooms (or maybe I'll make those unlimited, not sure). If you click when you land on Bowser's head, you do a double jump. With the hammer, you need to click several times to charge up the hammer within a few seconds. Charge it up all the way and you get a more powerful attack.

Then Bowser will choose one of three or two actions to perform, which include fire breath, punch, or eat a mushroom (only if his health is low).

This is going to require a lot of animating and code to work seamlessly, but I'll put up test demos if people are interested. Unless if you're all happy waiting for the finished/near-finished product, heh.

Oof! Sounds like loads of work, NintenDan! Good luck to ya!

Also--put up some test demos!

Don't worry, I did a fake Pokemon battle between a Dog and a Chicken once, where you had three attacks and the Dog had two, plus there were offense and defense stats that could lower or increase throughout! That took about 3 hours to make to be honest, so I'm expecting this will take 4 or 5 all up, which should be able to be done over a weekend.

As long as you don't have "Hydro Pump" as an attack we're all good.

I honestly love it! It's a great job and very professional. And everyone knows that comics that have time and love into them are a lot better than those put together in paint.

As long as they can make me giggle.
