It was never really revealed on what exactly happened, it's just that to me Charles still wants to voice Mario in truth, like he said "I want to voice Mario until I drop dead". Alas Nintendo kicked him out of the role and made him "Ambassador" and thus what I said forced into retirement by Nintendo.

So there's 2 levels in the demo, one is the swordfighting one, and the other is where you're the baker. That one is on a timer and you have to bake so much in that time limit. It was fun nonetheless.
