I've been away for awhile. Months ago I opted out of getting the ps4 because all they kept doing for releasing games that are available for ps4 and trying to sell cheap $5 facebook style games and what not.

Other than the upcoming Dead Island 2, has there been any releases of games that are great yet?

Well there is Destiny coming out if your into a FPS made by the halo makers. Infamous 3 is a good game as well. I would still wait yet though.

I never had a PS3 so its personally worth it for me. If your into Destiny, Driveclub, AC Unity or things like that then I'd say its worthwhile getting before the end of the year.

I think there are not currently enough exclusive Japanese RPG like Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts and Dragon Quest to make PS4 worth it for JRPG fans like myself.

IMO, the only reason to get a PS4 is if you want to play F2P titles on your big screen (which, if you already have a dedicated living room gaming PC, is unnecessary). I look forward to getting KH3 when it comes out, but other than that most titles are coming to PC anyways.

I'm fairly sure the backwards compatibility feature is not difficult to create. I think they just want to eliminate people from using their investments of older games for long and buy new ones(or buy the same one again).

I remember the original Far PS3 in 2009 which were bigger could play PS1-PS2 games.  All The PS2 versions from Fat to slim can play PS1 games, but you need a PS1 memory card to save PS1 games on the PS2.

I think Sony is cheap, and did not want to spend a little more time and money to make their PS4 backwards compatible with the PS1-PS3 games. Plus, Sony will get more sales of PS3 consoles, PS3 games, PS3 controllers, PS3 accessories, PS4 games from PS Now, PSN, and re-made classic PS4 disc games of the same games, but with higher resolution graphics and better sound. There is also now PS Vita TV which can play classic PS1-PS2 games or similar games available for Vita.

Sony also might not believe that they can sell as many PS4 for $450-499 because of the extra cost of parts, and software needed for backwards compatibility. Sony probably wanted to sell a lot of $400 consoles to casual gamers which did not own a PS1-PS3 or any previous console, so backwards compatibility does not matter much to casual gamers. A cheaper price tag is more attractive to casual gamers like how many casual gamers bought the Wii because it was cheapest, and to play a few games like Wii Sports, Guitar Hero, and Mario Kart.

It still increases cost and I know game companies are aiming for game consoles you don't need to insert a disc into which kills back compatibility right there. Sooner or later though, I think someone will come out with a attachable old game player you can put your discs into and hook via USB port.

I plan on getting a PS4, but since its not backwards compatible I'm going to keep my PS3 since I know I won't want to part with my old games any time soon. My brother bought a PS4 and says I should get one. I plan on taking his word for it.
