- Rockstar still own the trademark 'AGENT' as well as the trademark for the logo for the stylised Agent with a gun in a g
Agent trademark serial no:
86014006
Agent Logo serial no:
86014013
- Rockstar have renewed the trademarks 3 times. The most recent grant of extension of use was June 4th 2015.
- What if Rockstar are just holding onto the IP?
To hold onto a trademark during development of the IP, you need to sign an Intent to Use.
"
An Extension Request is a sworn statement that the applicant still has a bona fide intention to use the mark in commerce, but needs additional time actually to use the mark. A filing fee of $150 per class of goods/services must be paid with the Extension Request."
A max of 5 extensions can be granted, once every 6 months. Assumedly, Rockstar only have 12 months therefore to announce the title for a commercial release before the trademark is snatched away from them.
(Agent is a popular word, others may also want to use it but can not if Rockstar hold on to it and have no intent to use it)

There's no need for take-two to hold on the name if the game is cancelled (or features incorporated into GTAV which is what I heard)
Take-two have cancelled trademarks, including 'CODEX' and 'LINKS'.

Currently, the status of the trademark is still ITU, there's no gain in holding on to a trademark or deceiving the USPTO about your plans for the commercial use. Chances are, Agent is a side project for a smaller Rockstar branch (Rockstar Leeds perhaps?) to lead, along with rockstars usual method of including most other studios in development.

That logo is truly awful. Do people actually care about this game still? Afaik nothing was ever really said about it except that it existed and was a ps3 exclusive. If it is re-revealed I don't have high hopes for it since apparently it's been in the works since 2007 and is clearly low priority. But then again I didn't really follow sony or consoles back then so I dunno

Wasn't this the paid Sony exclusive?

Wonder if it's coming to the PS4?  Sony would really luck out if that's the case.

Sony seems to be doing everything in their power to move unfinished PS3 games to PS4 to make it more attractive, so if it gets reannounced and is still a Sony exclusive, it WILL be a PS4 game.

Anyway, I even forgot about this game. I don't even remember what it was about, if it was ever said. Rockstar usually makes solid games, though, so it will probably be good anyway.

Look, this E3 we got THREE games we thought would never see the light of day for various reasons (Last Guardian, FF7 remake, Shenmue 3). So is it REALLY THAT HARD to believe Rockstar's Agent could very well still be alive?

This game was featured on Cracked.com 's list of "5 Incredible Real Video Games (You'll Probably Never Get To Play)", where it's described as "an open world stealth game..... essentially what would happen if Metal Gear Solid collided with Grand Theft Auto in a flurry of turtlenecks, mutton chops, and Grand Funk Railroad". I don't think anyone can describe it better than that. :D

The reason I mentioned the list: another game on the list was The Last Guardian, which - surprise, surprise! - made it to this years E3. Nothing can really be speculated with the gaming industry. In the end, its up to what we as gamers want, and from the concept of Agent and what limited visuals we had, its obvious that we DO want Agent. Just keeping my fingers crossed. :)
