Should older people feel bad for wanting Animal Crossing?

I, along with a lot of other people (of all ages it looks like), am excited for the new Animal Crossing coming out. But the question is should the older people feel bad for wanting a game that obviously a lot of kids are going to want?

Allow me to reflect on my Animal Crossing City Folk experience. In the online community there was a vast range of different ages playing the game, from as young as 8 to as old as 72 (I kid you not). I am definitely sure there were cases of parents being very offended to see their kid talking to some 25+ man over Wiispeak (and not to mention ACCF had no online censorship. Period). I even remember a 13 year old girl who gave a lot of 18+ members honest crap about how they were creepy for playing a kids game.

And let's not forget this certain claim made by a cybercop.

So with that said, what do you think? Are you going to be afraid to reveal your true age to people? Do you think it's ok for older folks to play online with kids in Animal Crossing? Will you become the talk of the online community for being the "creepy old guy"? I am interested to hear peoples' opinions on this matter as I am a person who is kinda ashamed for wanting this game and might lie about his age to lessen the creepy-ness factor.
 
i think it's fine... i'm 24, and i'm excited for it to be released. i actually talked to someone in my office who's the same age, and she's looking forward to it too. i'm guessing most of the people i play online with or discuss the game with will be here so i don't feel weird about it but i guess there could be situations where it's odd for other people and/or children? i don't feel creepy myself though, to put it sort of bluntly i suppose.
 
I don't play a lot of AC, since I find it gets boring after a few weeks of doing the same thing over and over, but when I do play, I don't feel creepy. I mean it's a video game. Should I also feel bad for playing Mario? Should I feel bad for wanting to play Hello Kitty? Well Hello Kitty is a bad example, but really you can't put an age restriction on games. I mean you can so kids don't play adult games, but you can't make it so an adult can't play a kids game. I know there are creepy people in the world, but not everyone who's 18+ is some kind of pedophile. What a freaking shocker, right?


I can't believe this is even a problem.
 
No! I do not think that adults should shy away from animal crossing! I am over 18 and play Animal Crossing without shame! As for when I play with others, I do not ask for any personal info nor do I give any out. I care not for how old my fellow animal crossers are. It is an outlet to show off your creativity and style, and just be. nothing more. So play to your hearts content I say. :)
 
Who cares honestly? It's YOUR life, do what you please! I on the other hand wouldn't care, Animal Crossing is a classic series.
 
No. Remember, an E rating just means the game is everyone, not that it's just for kids. And a 3/7/whatever + rating in Europe just refers to the minimum age, you shouldn't feel bad if you want a game with a minimum age rating lower than your own age in the same way you shouldn't feel bad for buying alcohol if you're over 18/21.
 
I'm completely ok with playing the game if I were to play it for myself. It's just the online play for it may ruffle some feathers for parents and children. I don't know if you will have the chance to meet strangers while visiting your friend's town (such was the case in ACCF). I don't even know if ACNL will have voice chat like ACCF did.

But yeah, I guess I am alright with playing this game online. As long as I don't aim to add children and don't ask personal info things should be on the cool side.
 
In my mind, there's nothing wrong with being older and wanting to play something like AC. I'm over 18, and Wild World is still a favorite DS game (I'm still waiting for the throne to come up on spotlight again...it's the one item left that I want). I'll likely get this one at some point, likely after I get FE:A, which is next on my list.

Ultimately, my thoughts are, if it's acceptable for a younger kid to play an M rated game, it's of course acceptable for an adult to play an E rated game. E, as Nin said, is for everyone. Everyone and anyone may play and enjoy the experience. M is rated that for a reason...some content isn't for kids. Yet, everyone knows games like CoD, Halo, etc. are played a LOT by pre-teens and teens. If it's acceptable for them to be exposed to that kind of material, then there's no reason to argue against them playing a friendly game with an adult, particularly when CoD, Halo and the like have chat as well.

The real shame is that pedophiles are always ruining things for the rest of us! I am over 60, female, and feeling ridiculously excited for the upcoming new leaf. Frankly, I avoid adding friends who are under 21, and actually prefer players over age 30. To avoid any problems, you should do the same. Young kids are reckless sometimes and don't really think about running down flowers, chopping trees, etc. We can enjoy this game at any age, but probably best to stay within a certain age group.

okay people would find this an insult people of all ages can get it.games are for everyone and everybody at least should get one if they want it. But my main point is there are people who u would not believe who are in there 50s who still play video game so they should not feel bad.
 
I have a friend who's on up in his years (I won't say who or how old) and I'm 15. He says he will get AC:NL and I plan to either visit or invite him every chance I get because online play is fun and I'm not going to let age get in the way of it. He is very nice and doesn't ask any offending questions. (I shouldn't have to specify)

I say as long as your nice, respectful, and fair I give playing with younger players a great big OK!
 
To be honest I think anyone I knew, and even I myself would laugh if someone above maybe 15 said they played Animal crossing, even though it's a game I still like to play occasionally. I certainly wouldn't care if someone did, I just probably would find it at least slightly funny.
 
I never played a AC game, but after reading up on all the hype for this new one I will be picking a copy up to try it out. I'm 24, college graduate and a father and have no shame for playing any game.
