Just saw a trailer for the upcoming theme park that will open in 6 months time:

I would be happy if something like this came to the US. There are enough people interested in gaming to warrant such things.

Read more about it from Siliconera:

At the NBC Universal Q4 earnings call, the Universal’s Epic Universe Super Nintendo World area was confirmed and given a tentative 2023 launch window. The Epic Universe park will, like Disney World, include a park with four areas, hotels, and places to entertain people on 570 acres reserved for it.

This is the second Super Nintendo World to get a launch window. Super Nintendo World is going to have its own place at Universal Studios Osaka, It will have Mario Kart and Yoshi-themed rides at launch, as well as Power-Up Bands that encourage you to interact with attractions around the park. It is scheduled to open around the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, which will begin on July 24, 2020.

The other Universal Studios Super Nintendo World parks have been teased quite a bit. For example, the Epic Universe Orlando location will supposedly have a The Legend of Zelda area. The Universal Studios Singapore park on Sentosa Island is also going to have a Super Nintendo World, as is the Universal Studios Hollywood location.

Just read from Kotaku:

This summer, Universal Studios Japan’s Super Nintendo World was slated to open. However, due to the novel coronavirus, the Mario-themed area will not open.

The state of emergency has been lifted in Japan, and USJ re-opened on June 8. Visitors, however, have been restricted, to annual pass holders and Kansai residents with passes. Only half the number of usual visitors are being allowed in each day, guests must wear masks and submit to temperature checks, and the park is also using a contract tracing system.

It should come as no surprise that NHK is reporting Super Nintendo World’s planned July opening has been delayed. The reason why, NHK explains, is that the park is trying to maximize social distancing and avoid congestion in the park. USJ decided that opening the new area would make that difficult.

At this point, NHK adds, Universal Studios Japan is not able to predict when Super Nintendo World will open.

Yeah they've delayed it because of the coronavirus, it was inevitable tbh. Such a shame after seeing some clips of what it's going to look like. Looks pretty fun!

Good news for me as I won't be there now until later in the year. Hopefully it opens up by Christmas!

Read an update from Silionera:

Universal Studios Japan announced that the first Super Nintendo World section, which will open within the theme park, will open in Spring 2021. Additionally, a ‘Mario Cafe & Store’ will open later this month in the Hollywood Area of the park.

The Mario Cafe & Store is a 2-in-1 restaurant and merch shop that will open on October 16, 2020.

Here you’ll see designs based on Mario and Luigi’s hats as well as their corresponding colors of red and green. It will have everything from cute food items to collector’s goods. The moment you step foot into the shop, you’ll be greeted by exclamation mark blocks, green pipes, and colorful tables with designs based on the iconic mushrooms from Mario.

Check out some of the food items below:

The two on the left are the “Pancake Sandwiches” that are based on Mario & Luigi’s hats. Drinks come with Mario and Luigi’s mustaches attached to the straws. On the right is the Super Mushroom drink bottle.
