Genie Interactive Games' horror game TheCecil: The Journey Begins focuses on the occult goings-on in the titular hotel and the malevolent forces that seem to emanate from it, but with a twist and some fictitious occurrences. Go on an adventure through the hotel and discover the secrets and tales that have been kept hidden for so long. When Jeff Chambers opens his eyes in his dark and depressing home, he is met with nothing but darkness. Not long later, he gets a disturbing and eerie phone conversation from his deceased wife, in which she desperately needs his help and begs him to come to her rescue. After some initial confusion, Jeff figures out that she called from the demonic "Cecil Hotel." However, Jeff soon learns that combating evil is no simple feat. After much soul-searching, he comes to terms with the fact that he must identify the three phases of mourning in order to protect his wife's spirit: "shock and denial," "pain and guilt," and "acceptance and hope."
