Unfortunately, running such an absolutely massive company that has ties around the world is very expensive. All the research, technology, work and refinement of making new consoles is very expensive. Even the small games are expensive, let alone the large full 3D games, those are VERY expensive. And if Nintendo can't gain their money back and gain profits consistently, they are entirely screwed and doomed to circle the drain. It doesn't matter how much of a presence their history have had, that doesn't change the economy. There's no magical answer that will make them survive, it's on them, and so far, it's looking closer to grim than to good. Popularity of Mario, Pokemon, and Smash bros are sadly irrelevant, as if they're not doing enough for Nintendo, then they're not going to make it. Simple as that. History has shown that the greatest companies with lasting impacts can still go under and will, to say that Nintendo is 'just going to do it' is irrational.
