So I decided to take a speedtest.net test on the latest versions of Firefox, Chrome and Internet Explorer, each, 3 times, and here's what I got:

Firefox:

1255856549.png
1255856151.png

Chrome:
1255859908.png
1255859612.png
1255859306.png

Internet Explorer:
1255863141.png
1255862835.png
1255862442.png

And in basic text form, along with averages, all in kilobytes per second:
Download:
Firefox:
1234.6, 1237.0, 1233.0 (1234.9)
Chrome: 1252.1, 1270.3, 1268.0 (1263.5)
Internet Explorer: 1236.9, 1236.9, 1239.5 (1237.8)

Upload:
Firefox:
125.8, 126.0, 124.5 (125.4)
Chrome: 125.4, 125.0, 125.3 (125.2)
Internet Explorer: 125.3, 124.5, 126.4 (125.4)

So basically, Chrome is fastest for downloading, with Firefox being slowest, where as uploads is exactly the opposite.. Firefox is fastest (it's actually slightly higher than Internet Explorer, by some 34 bytes, but the 125.433333333333333 rounds down to 125.4; Internet Explorers was actually 125.4), and Chrome is slowest, but only just.

I love the functionality of Chrome

I love being able to just pick up tabs, drag them to whatever order or drag them out of the current browser into a new window.

Go Chrome!

Perhaps I should actually test it on an actual download?

In fact, I'm going to do that right now... in this case, a 76.6 MB file.
Firefox downloaded it in about 1 minute, 3 seconds (1.235 MB/s or 1265.14 kB/s)
Chrome downloaded it in about 37 seconds (2.070 MB/s or 2119.96 kB/s)
The actual file was the iTunes setup exe. In this case, Chrome downloaded it 67.6% faster!
To be honest I'm not quite sure just how fast my download speed actually should be.

Also I did a few more tests, and somehow, Firefox mostly hovers around 1235-1240, however, I did get a few 1250. But Chrome managed to reach 1335 or something.

I did notice something. When I first downloaded the file in Chrome, it seemed to download at a normal speed, however, if you cancel the download, then 'retry' the download, then it should somehow start off over 10 times as fast as normal. For example, my download speed is very often, as you know around 1.2-1.3 MB/s, however, it managed to start off right up at over 15 MB/s

It caches it.

Internet Explorer 9 does that, too. I just find IE...I don't know, easy to use and reliable. It's simple and I've been using it so long, I don't want to change it and probably won't until the full version of Google Chrome comes out.

I was expecting a statistically significant output here, but looking at the data, a chi-square test yields a p-value of .999999988
In other words, based on this data, we can conclude that there is no correlation or association between browser and download speed, seeing how that's a huge p-value.
(Yay, stats class!)

Next you should check the error quote.. Cuz Internet Explorer and Chrome seem to always crash or find other problems and things that they don't seem to like. Am I the only one that experiences this? Dunno, well I still like my firefox, it can do what ever I want it to and it crashes rarely

Full version of Chrome? What? I'm using version 10.0.648.205, or in short, Google Chrome 10, which is the most recent stable release as of April 14, 2011.
Google Chrome 11 is in its beta stages, and the most recent preview release was also April 14, 2011, and Google Chrome 12 is in it's development stages.
The full release history of the major versions of Google Chrome is:
  • 0.2.149 - September 2, 2008
  • 0.3.154 - October 29, 2008
  • 0.4.154 - November 24, 2008
  • 1.0.154 - December 11, 2008
  • 2.0.172 - May 24, 2009
  • 3.0.195 - October 12, 2009
  • 4.0.249 - January 25, 2010
  • 4.1.249 - March 17, 2010
  • 5.0.375 - May 21, 2010
  • 6.0.472 - September 2, 2010
  • 7.0.517 - October 21, 2010
  • 8.0.552 - December 2, 2010
  • 9.0.597 - February 3, 2011
  • 10.0.648 - March 8, 2011
  • 11.0.696.44 - April 15, 2011 (beta)
  • 12.0.773.0 - April 12, 2011 (development)

I use the beta version of Chrome. It works just fine for me. One problem I have with Firefox is that it takes a few seconds more to open than Chrome. That's just me being picky, though. As a test I'm using the Canary build too. A.K.A. 12

My IE has never crashed as far as I remember... I honestly do not know why everyone hates IE. I've heard a bunch of people say they don't like it, but with no reasons except for that it crashes or is slow to use. My IE doesn't have either of those problems. That will be all.

You can do that in Firefox as well.

It is the extensions/add-ons in both Chrome and Firefox that make me decide which browser to use. I wish that Chrome had a few of the add-ons that Firefox has and vice-versa.

While I tend to use Firefox as my main browser, I do find myself getting annoyed with it because it constantly crashes when I open too many tabs which is absolutely ridiculous. :/

I KNEW IT! CHROME PWNS IE + FIREFOX ON DOWNLOAD!!!

Yeah cause download speed is all people look for in a browser. >_>

The only time I upload in a browser is when I'm posting pictures. Otherwise all my uploading is through torrents or FileZilla.
So I don't care about upload speeds in browsers at all.

Danielle: Well they copied that off Chrome, Chrome has been doing that for a couple of years now.

So long as the Internet works, that's all I look for in a browser. Seriously, after years of living off a 56K Modem, you learn to live with waiting.

So that's why Chrome can download files quickly but not upload my videos to Youtube at anywere near the same rate as Firefox could. Interesting stats TUK.

I wasn't referring only to upload speeds. I was talking about addons, tab abilities, security, etc.
