Out of all the other 2D platformer series Nintendo has going, which one do you think is the best and why?
Also, I don't think I missed any in the poll, did I? I guess you could potentially count Metroid as one if you're very generous with the meaning of the word 'platformer' and you could also say the 2D sections in some Super Smash Bros titles are part of a series, but I left them out for conveniance sake.
So which 2D platformer series not starring Mario do you think is best?
Wario was one of my favorites, he had a different style.. like most of the ones up there.. but his goal was often more than just reach the end and his abilities always seemed interesting.
Kirby. I don't like any of the other 4 choices. Plus Kirby is cute and steals his enemies abilities. Besides in Epic Yarn, which is why it's a bad game.
I would go with Kirby too. I have fond memories of playing through Kirby's Dreamland and never getting past the last level. Then one day I did. That was an awesome day.

And in older games like Kirby dream land! But I loved Epic Yarn and dream land despite this, so not being able to copy abilities don't make things bad games.
Also, I would have picked Yoshi's Island, being an incredible fan of the game myself, though I've replayed Wario Land 3 plenty more times than I have Yoshi's Island.

Well the first Kirby game I played was Kirby and the Crystal Shards. You could assume how disapointed I was when dual combos were only in that game. I got over it. Tough no power stealing just takes away from it for me. Like in Yarn Yoshi, you can't make eggs. That takes away from the game all together.

You just stated you hated the other four choices.... why would that even matter to you? I'm a Yoshi's Island fan, but that's not stopping me from getting Yarn Yoshi.
To be fair to Starfy, I think all Kirby votes should translate to Starfy votes as they are exceptionally similar stylistically (though no power-stealing).

I'm pretty sure that Starfy ripped off Kirby. I think I stated that when the first one came out a few years ago. I mean I never played it, but it seemed like the same basic concept.

By a few years ago, you mean 2002? Or by "first one" you mean the fifth in the series which was released outside of Japan? It isn't a rip off at all; the style and difficulty is similar, but gameplay is completely different.

"It's bad because it's different."
I never liked that kind of mentality. Just because something is different should never mean that it's automatically bad.
Maybe it's not what you expected. Maybe it doesn't interest you. Maybe you didn't want a game that was so different. But that doesn't mean that it's bad.
Yes, Kirby's Epic Yarn is bad at being a traditional Kirby game. But maybe that's because IT WAS NEVER MEANT TO BE ONE. It didn't even start out as part of the franchise. That's why it's so different. It was originally just supposed to be a game about Prince Fluff but now it's a Kirby spin-off.
Epic Yarn is perfect at being what it's supposed to be. It's not like the game is boring or uncreative, full of bugs, has bad music, is unbalanced or anything. I haven't even played it but I can tell that it's probably tons of fun to play!
You might say that it's too easy but one can argue whether that's a bad thing.
Super Mario Sunshine was also different. Wind Waker was different. Luigi's Mansion was different. All of those games were truly awesome yet people still complained FOR THE SOLE REASON THAT THEY WERE DIFFERENT.
That's partially why Nintendo is now scared to make their games too different and ceases to innovate just so nobody can say "It's different, that's why it's bad." and so people don't dismiss the games for not being the same as the last one.
It's this kind of mentality that causes Nintendo to let their franchises stagnate. If the fans didn't bitch about those games being too "different" maybe Nintendo would've continued to innovate and use creative and fun ideas. Maybe then we wouldn't have gotten 4 Mario games in a row that were THE COMPLETE FUDGING SAME!!!

*deep breath*
...but I digress.
The game took away the one thing that made Kirby special. It's not because it's different. It's because they took away. It's not Kirby if he can't steal powers. It's what Kirby's done since the beginning. Well not the first Kirby game, but it became a staple in the series. Take that away, and poof, Kirby isn't special any more. He's just a pink puff ball that swallows things or spits them up. Like Yoshi.

The point is that it's still a great game even if it doesn't use the usual gameplay mechanics.
Luigi's Mansion didn't use any of the usual Mario gameplay mechanics either but it's still a great Mario game because it's just a spin-off. And Epic Yarn is a spin-off, too.
Saying Kirby isn't special if he can't copy powers is like saying Luigi isn't special if he can't jump. In Luigi's Mansion he never jumps because the game isn't built around jumping but Luigi is still a great character.
In the same way Epic Yarn isn't built around sucking stuff up and copying powers (cuz it wasn't a kirby game at first, remember?).
I think we need spin-offs like this. Variety, you know? Why not a Kirby game that plays different for once?
Imagine Nintendo said: "What? A game where Luigi hunts ghosts, instead of running and jumping? That would suck!"
Then we would've never gotten that great game.
If you want a traditional Kirby game then you're looking in the wrong place.
Would you have prefered it if the game wasn't a kirby game at all? It's not like we would've gotten another regular Kirby instead. We would've gotten nothing until Kirby's Return to Dream Land was released.
I'm rambling again, ain't I?
So anyway. You're entitled to your opinion and I don't want to make you change it, I just want to get a point across.
More spin-offs doesn't mean less normal games.
And I'm just saying that Epic yarn isn't a bad game. It just doesn't fit in line with Kirby games. It should of starred Prince Fluff like it was supposed to. That's what I think, anyway. People knew Return to dreamland was coming out because it was shown at E3 2005.
Anyway... I like Epic Yarn. But they should have add copying.
