I feel many electric car drivers will keep their electric car for many years, or until their car traveled a very high mileage like 100000 miles. Most electric cars have most of the high tech electronics features like touchscreen stereo system, power windows, parking sensors, backup reverse camera, semi-autonomous driving features, internet service, and air conditioning, so there maybe less of a need for most electric car buyers to switch electric cars to get new features in the future.
In 2016, Steve Marsh's 5 year old 2011 Nissan Leaf electric car traveled 150000 miles which is over 240,000 km. His electric car can still go 42 miles when driving at a regular speed. He is still using his original battery. He claims his car have very few problems except for his old battery which can't hold as much electricity according to Exclusive Interview With Steve Marsh As His Nissan LEAF Hits 150,000 Miles (Original Battery)
Electric cars do have some nice features like fast acceleration, home charging, quiet running motor, low maintenance, unique aerodynamic design, etc which may make users want to keep the car for a long time.
New electric cars still cost more money to buy than most similar size gas cars. I think most people who buy an electric car will plan to keep it for many years as long as the battery still works after many years until the car cost too much money to repair at an affordable price like gas cars where repairing a old broken gas car can cost more than buying a more reliable new or used gas car which can give the owner many years of good reliability and a warranty to fix car problems.
If someone does not drive many miles a day and there are a lot of electric car charging stations where they live, they will be able to continue to use their electric car with an aging battery which can't hold as much electricity and go as far as a newer electric car.
Electric cars have fewer liquids like coolant/water, motor oil, and other things which can leak, and there are fewer parts which become rusted, so the car may last longer than a gas car.
