Work in retail?

Oh really? So is your boss okay with that? I figured they wouldn't be happy about making less than the people under them.

Lets back up as there may be some confusion.

I was saying I went to a much better paying job than any manger postion would pay at my old job. (besides the SM/GM spots)

Naturally my manger made more than me, though most likely $1 more.

Though I have seen stoires on the subreddit of long time emplyees being paid less compared to new hires due to minimum wage increase.

I understand.

In regards to the last thing you mention, I think that's true where I work. The minimum wage was $5.15 per hour and now the minimum wage is $11.00 per hour. People coming in now will make more than me and I've been at my present job for 13 years.

yeah, got to speak up or quit as it isn't right really.

Though I will say I was paid $9, my mangers did fight to get it bump up to $11 to match local area job offers. Which sadly most area jobs are now jumping up to $15 and no way can they match that.

I'm looking for another job at the moment. My problem is when I put in job applications, most of the time I don't hear back from them. When I do, I end up playing phone tag with them until they give up.

What jobs are you applying for? Could be a bad resume or they simply don't like seeing retail on there.

I'm applying for manufacturing jobs. I worked manufacturing before I ended up in retail. I have enough manufacturing experience for the jobs I'm applying for.

I've thought about applying at some of the banks. You only have to have 6 months to a year of cashing handling experience at most of them in order to qualify and I definitely have that.

odd, usually manufacturing jobs sweep people up. I would go with the bank if possible, should be less exhausting to endure.

That's what I'm going to do. I shouldn't have to work at night and I won't work most of the weekend. If I do work on the weekend, it'll just be for a little while on Saturday morning but it won't take up my whole Saturday (most of the banks here will close around noon or 1pm on Saturday at the latest). Plus, you get holiday's off at the bank as well since none of the banks are open on the holiday's. This should give me more time with the hubby than my current job.

Can't tell you how nice it is to have weekends off since I always worked saturdays and sundays.

I've just applied for a 1st shift manufacturing job online before heading off to work (they had a couple of 1st shift openings). We'll see if I get a response back via e-mail. *got my fingers crossed*

I'll still check at some of the banks on my day off.

best of luck! Will you give 2 week notice when you get the good news?

I plan on it. The only time I won't is if they really piss me off. I mean, I still have 3 weeks of vacation at this particular time. If they piss me off bad enough, I could just leave and take a vacation until I go to my new job. It depends on how they treat me during the last 2 weeks.

I'd work on getting those vacation days to be paid out, managed to swing that when I left my job. Was a nice piece of bonus pay.

Well, they're going to have to pay me for any un-used vacation days when I leave.

That happened to me when I left Petco back in the day. I had about 3 1/2 weeks of un-used vacation pay that they had to pay me for when I put in my 2 week notice and left. After I got my final check, I had to come back a second time and get a second check for all the un-used vacation time. It was like a bonus check for leaving that place.
