Well, the topic title has it all. Would you actually want a Mario game that had lots of story and depth to it, and had a whole heap of characters brought together in some kind of kooky adventure?

I wouldn't mind one, so long as the story wasn't so retarded. And the genre of game, well, probably a 3D one (not an RPG, like Paper Mario) like Galaxy, or a 3D RPG (Paper Mario is kind of 2.5D, not fully rotatable camera if you get what I mean by that), something entertaining.

I think it could be pulled off if effort was put into it, but then again, that dastardly Miyamoto has said himself he likes to keep story away from Mario, so this is all some huge fan dream of mine I guess. But heck, it doesn't hurt to ask and see who else shares similar thoughts!

Also, NINTENDAN tag FTW.

Sure. Like teh Subspace thing in SSBB. That was awesomeness.

I love games with stories to them. It gives the characters more realism and depth. Its easier to get a feel for them based on their traits and not just their appearance.

No way in hell. I'm entirely glad Mario games are generally lacking in story, I don't like to read dialogue much, I don't like cut scenes and I want Mario games which let you start playing more quickly, not more slowly. The RPGs got a pass for being entertaining and well... RPGs, but I don't want the Mario games to go the same way.

Not really no. Trying to add lots of story is kind of what killed Sonic in the 3D era.

Okay, so how about an RPG that basically steps away from the current RPG ones we've got? So basically Galaxy standard (or whatever the latest Mario game is) graphics-wise?

Although I still really doubt this happening. Still, interesting to hear everybody's thoughts, heh.

I don't mind it if it's an RPG, but if it wasn't an RPG (like Galaxy) then nope, not necessary, for those games the usual "Princess got captured.....AGAIN" is fine.

I will admit though that all the Paper Mario storylines are great, just keep the stories to that genre though.
