Rejoice PlayStation fans, your username, which if you made out of boredom or a joke, may now be changed into something else! Though it won't be perfect.

Starting in 2019, you may now change your PSN name once, which if you wish to do so afterwards will cost you $10 USD or $5 USD if your a PSN+ member. Sony did want to make the following clear to those who wish to change their names:

When you change your online ID, you will have the option to display your previous ID with your new ID, so your friends can recognize you. Once you decide to display your old ID or not, you won’t be able to adjust this after completing the online ID change process.

This feature is compatible with PS4 games originally published after April 1, 2018, and a large majority of the most-played PS4 games that were released before this date. However, please note not all games and applications for PS4, PS3 and PS Vita systems are guaranteed to support the online ID change, and users may occasionally encounter issues or errors in certain games. If for any reason you experience issues after changing your ID, you can revert back to your original ID for free at any time (you will only be able to revert once during the preview program). Reverting back to an old ID will resolve most issues caused by the ID change. In addition, when this feature officially launches, a list of compatible games published before April 1, 2018, will be provided on PlayStation.com for reference before you make a change.

So, what will become your new name?

It is expensive that it cost $5 to $10 to change a PSN name after the first name change.

Just read these warnings:

Important Information Before Changing your Online ID:

Not all games and applications for PS4™, PS3™, PS Vita, and other PlayStation® systems support the Online ID change feature. If you change your Online ID:
  • You may lose access to content (including paid-for content) that you have acquired for your games, including content like add-ons and virtual currency.
  • You may lose your progress within games, including game saved data, leaderboard data and progress toward trophies.
  • Parts of your games and applications might not function properly, both online and offline.
  • Your previous Online ID(s) may remain visible to you and other players in some places.

Sad they haven't integrated it perfectly but its good we're getting it regardless and it should work itself out for everything from this point forward. I have no need to change my name though.

The disadvantages of changing an ID name is worse than choosing to not change an unwanted ID name. Some people may end up losing many hours of gameplay, game data, achievements, and hundreds to thousands of dollars worth in digital content like games, add-ons, and virtual currency.

I feel one of the advantages of physical disc games is that you still have a copy of the game even after you change your ID and other technical problems like Sony losing your ID causing you to lose access to your digital games, and users can sell a physical game after no longer feeling the game is worth playing because Sony lost a user's DLC and in-game currency after a ID change.

This is a reason why I doubt digital copies.

Allowing change name will cause a domino effect on their system, I also think there be more system problem in the near future.
