I don't remember my siblings ever doing it in a devastating way. But I do remember my Mum not understanding the PS3 save file system and saving over my 20-30hr file of Ni No Kuni. :s

I don't typically play ROMHacks but I saw the video and was intrigued. I just started a Nuzlocke of it on my Twitch channel. It's super polished and I recommend giving it a go. My starter was Porygon. XD
For general advertising I'll drop a link in forums / Discord servers that I'm a part of. Friends will sometimes give it a click and leave a follow.
When I'm about to go live, I'll:
- Drop another link in Discord
- Post an Instagram / Facebook story
- Post on Twitter
I think it can be bad for very linear games like visual novels because if you watch a playthrough, there's not a lot left to encourage you to play it. However, for non-linear ones I think it can be good just to showcase the game in a different light. This is why I like streaming and watching...
In other words, you need cash.
I had a SUICA as well but mainly used it for the train and occasionally the arcade because it was novel to play arcade games with a train card.
