I know this is silly but the obsessiveness over it from certain people I wouldn't exactly qualify as my sort of people has really ruined any interest of me getting into the show.

To be honest I think anyone I knew, and even I myself would laugh if someone above maybe 15 said they played Animal crossing, even though it's a game I still like to play occasionally. I certainly wouldn't care if someone did, I just probably would find it at least slightly funny.
