With the release of Overwatch 2, we saw loot boxes be completely removed from the game. This was done because of the backlash that they received about the loot boxes being more like gambling because you had no guarantee of what you were getting in the loot boxes if you purchased them which could lead people to keep buying them until they got something they wanted.
I do feel that instead of removing them, maybe keeping the option in the game for you to be able to earn them through gameplay would have been a good idea.
