E3 Next Tales Game Is Tales Of Arise

More intel just dropped from gamestalk interview, translated by Gematsu:

TOA_SS__0103_PA_ENG_1560122399.jpg

  • Development is being handled entirely by Bandai Namco Studios. Among our ranks are staff from Tales of Berseria, and some of them even worked on Tales of Phantasia. We have staff both new and old who love the series and are working on the game while discussing the “succession and evolution of tradition.”
  • The protagonist is from Dahna. How to over turn his people’s state of oppression is one direction the story takes. The protagonist’s armor and helmet are equipped due to his physical features. It should be noted that he has more than just his armor outfit, and will change to various costumes according to the situation.
  • The heroine is from Rena, and is a confident and attractive woman. With the power relationship between Dahna and Rena, she and the protagonist are not very good friends from the start. Their relationship begins in a setting where the people of Rena discriminate against the people of Dahna, and eventually leads to a great drama.
  • The world where the main characters live in is Dahna, and the floating planet seen in both the key visual and trailer is Rena. Dahna is described as a world filled with nature, and the residents of Dahna revere Rena as the planet where the "dead and the divine reside". Rena, on the other hand, is a world with advanced science and magic technology, and they have invaded Dahna 300 years prior to the events of the game. You could call Dahna's culture as more of the middle ages, with little science and no magic. With Rena's overwhelming power, Dahna's people were defeated and enslaved. Our story begins 300 years later, from a one-sided view of the relationship between the two. From this beginning alone, one may feel a hard and dark atmosphere.
  • The Tales of Arise project started long before Tales of Vesperia: Definitive Edition, which was announced one year ago.
  • As we were analyzing the main appeals of the Tales Of series, there were many parts that needed to evolve for the future. In order to maintain and expand the brand from here on out, we need to also attract the attention of young players. That being said, we are challenging ourselves to present something that dares to step back from the traditional conventions of the series in order to attract more players.
  • In order to realize rich lighting and atmosphere accompanied with unique, watercolor-like graphics and approachable character models, we based the game on Unreal Engine 4 while developing our own completely original shaders and the like.
  • The theme is to hopefully offer “a highly immersive experience.” As one representation of that, we are further enhancing things such as the performance and actions of the characters in order to have players feel as if, “this character lives in this world.” With that approach, we’re combining fields and characters depicted in a watercolor style, as well as increasing the body size of characters to look more human. We’re putting a particular amount of effort into motions. Like even if you turn around, the character will not instantly rotate—it’s more realistic in that the character will first twist their body before turning around.
  • Minoru Iwamoto, who works at Bandai Namco Studios, is the main character designer and head of art direction. This is the first mothership title in the series where both of those roles are filled by a single person. But because of that, there is a sense of unity in the game’s art in various respects. For example, by simultaneously working on both the world and costume designs, we can have a sense of unification even up to the cultural level. This is also part of the plan to offer “a highly immersive experience,” which is again the theme of this game.
  • For areas related to performance, such as a character’s facial animations or the camera work, we’re aiming for a level of 3D anime comparable to television and theater.
  • While it may appear that 2D anime is unnecessary with the upgrade to 3D anime, 2D anime is an important element of the Tales Of series, and plays a part in the great balance that is “succession and evolution.” While looking for a more effective utilization, we are designing the drama to be more exciting on both ends.
More info on Tales of Arise will be coming at Tales of Festival 2019 on June 15. ..

Sounds like it is going to be a great game.

Indeed though I am worried about the ending. cliched' it may be, proper happy ending without the bitter sweet stuff is still the best ending that I like/want.

More info just dropped on the hero and heroine, same trailer now extended and with Japanese Voice overs:

They are loving showing off those two huh?

lol Bamco ships them. I wonder on the other main/playable characters and battle system, hopefully more intel will drop soon...

most likely late in the year.
I think so. There's still much work to be done with the game or otherwise they would already show the game trailer complete with english character VOs.

Fans just pointed out first visible southern PLOT view of Shionne lol "wardrobe malfunction":

Nothing wrong with that :p

lol well she looks confidently smug enough during the scene, despite her southern public reveal lol

With her white colored dress, she should wear something more red-ish down there to even up the whites imo lol

Read some more stuff from famitsu, ryokutya2089, translated by Siliconera:
  • In order to attract younger players and also maintain their current brand in the coming future, they had to set their sights towards creating a new ‘Tales of’ series image.
  • Animation studio ufotable has put more effort into this game’s animated cutscenes than they have up to this point.
On Alphen
  • Alphen is a bit older compared to protagonists up to this point. He can’t feel pain, so even if he’s injured he can continue to fight without flinching, but on the other hand, he might not notice his injuries and die from them if not careful. Knowing his condition, his allies make him wear heavy armor in order to protect him from danger.
  • Because he can’t feel pain, he is able to wield the blade of flames.
  • Alphen is not immortal.
On Shionne

shion3-1.jpg

  • One of her characteristics is that she’s cursed so that touching her at all will send a wave of pain as if you’ve been shocked with electricity.
  • Her meeting with Alphen is coincidental.
  • The theme of the drama at the beginning of the story is a power that is only usable because it’s used by Alphen and Shionne.
  • Only the people of Rena are able to use firearms.

I don't think there wasn't anything wrong with animation in the last game?

I think it's just them saying that the animation team is giving 200% effort instead of 100% for animation.

More tidbits just dropped from
PS4/XBONE『テイルズオブアライズ』最新情報 | ゲームよりどりサブカルみどりパーク
translated by Siliconera:
talesofariselistingthumb01ps4us10jun19-1.png

  • “The second planet mentioned in the story introduction is not the star you see in the sky on the image artwork (pictured above).”
  • “The two planets are on a completely different cultural level from each other. Dahna’s more on the level of the Middle-Ages and they can’t even use magic.”
  • “It is not open-world. It’s a conventional RPG where you’ll walk across maps with the occasional dungeons to take on.”
  • “The world setting has been made so that you get that open-world feel to it. The elevation differences are well-depicted as well.”
  • “The battles are encounter type.” (Visible instead of random encounters.)
  • “With the improvement of 3D presentations, there will more or less be some changes to parts relating to the anime side of things. However, this doesn’t mean that the anime parts will be completely gone. (When asked about Skits, he could not provide an answer.)”
