PC/Mobile Valve's Steam Deck

It will be interesting to see what kind of people go for something like this. I doubt many PC gamers want to use a device like this for PC games when they have become accustomed to a keyboard and mouse.

I think the $399 version of Steam Deck with 64GB of storage can be popular with buyers who only own a slower netbook, tablet, low-end smartphone and older/slower full size desktop computer which are not fast enough for most PC games.

I think the $529 and $649 version of Steam deck with more storage maybe less attractive to many buyers because buyers can get a used gaming computer for a similar price on eBay, and use a game console controller to play games if they don't like a keyboard and mouse for gaming. There are also apps which let you stream PC games to a tablet, smartphone, and settop box like Steam link and Android TV boxes.

I'll most likely get the FF remasters for this :p

Saw new trailer:

I get it day one if it didn't cost so much.

I agree the version of the Steam deck with more storage cost a lot.

It would be cool if there is a version of the Steamdeck which let people install a laptop hard drive or SSD, so people with less money can add more storage without spending a lot of money.

Officially delayed:

The launch of Steam Deck will be delayed by two months. We’re sorry about this—we did our best to work around the global supply chain issues, but due to material shortages, components aren’t reaching our manufacturing facilities in time for us to meet our initial launch dates.

It will be delayed until February:cry:
Shipments will be delayed until February, at which point they will start shipping them out in the order of their reservations. I got the email today about it for my reservation. :|

oh dang you got one, jealous :p

But I'm not surpised about this, I knew there were going to be shortages, guess they are trying to keep everyone even in it.

Hopefully, the Steamdeck does not get delayed after Febuary because of the microchip and tech pars shortages.

Saw video of DMC 5 running on it:

Read from VGC:

A Valve developer has warned against players using a new mod which allows them to expand their Steam Deck’s storage capacity with larger M.2 drives.

“Hi, please don’t do this,” Yang wrote. “The charger IC gets very hot and nearby thermal pads should not be moved. In addition, most 2242 m.2 drives draw more power and get hotter than what Deck is designed for.

“This mod may appear to work but will significantly shorten the life of your Deck.”

Steam deck can run DCS good enough with all minimum/low settings though i don't think it can run complex campaign missions good enough that require 32 GB of RAM and 4GB of VRAM, but the fact that it can even run it, it's already good enough for a portable gaming device:

Read from Siliconera:

The Steam Deck will have its first regional expansion to East Asia. Valve revealed that it is working with Komodo to bring the Steam Deck to Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, and Hong Kong. All three models of the portable console are available to pre-order in those countries and regions.

In Japan, the base 64GB model is available at ¥59,800 (~$449), the 256GB model at ¥79,800 (~$599), and the 512GB model at ¥99,800 (~$749). The prices are higher than in the U.S., where Valve priced the three models at $399, $529, and $649, respectively.

The cooperation between Valve and Komodo will not be limited to the Steam Deck’s distribution. The company will set up a large booth dedicated to the portable console at Tokyo Game Show 2022. Japan’s annual gaming event will have a physical-and-digital hybrid format, and it will take place on September 15-18, 2022. Valve has yet to announce the East Asian release date, but the TGS 2022 presentation will help introduce the console to the Japanese public ahead of its release.
