Will people continue to play games on their smartphones if smartphones become less popular?

Rich people have a lot of money where spending thousands of dollars on virtual items won't make them poor because some rich people own factories and companies which make million to billion of dollars a year.

Well, they are using money to make time. :p If you have businesses, you won't actually do much, just waiting for the income.

This is true a lot of rich people use money to make time. Some rich people may care more about having a very high score in a mobile game than saving their money by not spending money on mobile game's virtual items, and use money to skip the waiting times.

Some rich people may not have to work very hard at their business because they hired workers like a manager to run the business for them.

Yeah. If those rich people stop spending much. I think devs will realize and drop the prices.

It looks like mobile gaming have become a form of gambling to some mobile game devs who hope they become lucky and won when enough rich people play their game, and buy hundreds to thousands of virtual items, levels, lives, characters, and in-game money and lives. Some games like Clash of Clans can make many millions of dollars a year by selling virtual items, and in-game money which are just copies of digital files where the maker uses programs like coding programs, Photoshop and 3D editor programs to make the file once, and they can sell the same virtual item for as long as they like, or make it a limited edition item to sell it for a high price like $5 for a rare virtual sword for a character in a game.

I bet, some rich people can't stand that a friend, family member, enemy, or stranger have a higher score than them in a mobile game, so they spend a few hundred dollars and more to beat other people's store.

Plus, mobile games have a stereotype as being simple games, so getting beaten by strangers and friends maybe more embarrassing for some rich mobile gamers who don't like losing.
