Windows 12 Coming Soon

No one should see any major decline in a high end pc for a few years at least, barring any defects and or viruses.

Low end PCs like this one? Will be grinding gears to do a basic task within a year. I've sold them enough to know this is fact.

Do you have a old style disc hard drive or a new type SSD? If the old disc drive, you can try deleting files off of it and do a disc defrag to help it out a bit.
Looks like we have the old style disc hard drive. My husband & I are not technically inclined & don't want to delete files that we THINK we don't need but the computer actually does!
Uninstalling Word (or any other software) won’t delete your documents. It just removes the software off the computer.
Okay, thank you for this! I hesitate because I've lost all my Files before because I messed up.

If you just stick to folders like your downloads or documents, you shouldn’t run across files your computer needs. Especially if you recognize the files and go “wait, why do I still have this?”. When it comes to disk defragging, you just search for “disk defrag” on your computer and all you basically need to do is click start, and wait for it to be done.

Also, I’m not sure how you lost all of your files when you uninstall something. If you go to the add/remove programs (or whatever Windows calls it nowadays) and uninstall something, usually you just click next once or twice and then you’ll see something that tells you it’s uninstalling. If you read the prompts, you’ll know what you’re doing.

Computers aren’t scary, and a lot of stuff is basically automated and require little to no knowledge of “technical skills”. If you stick to places you’re familiar with, you gotta try to fuck things up.

A lot of people get scared with computers and just clam up, not realizing that most of the things you ask your computer savvy friend to do just requires them to press a button or two and walk away.

This concept is simply amazing. The design, the features, it looks like something microsoft would make.

I can't see why Microsoft would want to swift to a release model like Apple and release updates much more regularly. Updating Windows is already painful enough so I doubt many would update as quickly.

Thank you! That makes sense in sticking with simple things like downloads.
I'll work on Disk Defrag.
I posted this on my own forum when I was asking for help with Word too:
Yesterday, my husband & I spent time & did research. One option was to remove add-ins. I had done that before. Then I had looked that 2019 will be phased out anyways. I remembered why I didn’t want 365 at the beginning. 2019 is a one time fee. 365 you have to pay monthly/yearly. I saw there is an Office 2021.
Who has had 2019, 2021, AND 365 & how do they differ?
The 365 Family can have up to 5 accounts. I only need ONE account but I’m looking to incorporate it into another device. I use the desktop but sometimes I use my husband’s Laptop when we are at my parents. Because I don’t have Word installed, anything I want to add I have to put in an email then when we get home, I copy/paste it to Word. Is there a way to Sync the 2 devices?

I have Windows 10. & it says my Word is Version 2207. If that's helpful at all.
Learning 2019 version will be phased out had me go on a different path with this.

Sorry, I can’t help much, I still run 2019.

You could try logging in on 365 on the other computer. The worst thing that will happen is that it’ll tell you no, and you just wasted your time.

The mobile ones work surprisingly fine when doing basic tasks. I got one of those $100 laptops at Best Buy as a throwaway laptop for my last trip, and it worked fine after I disabled S mode. Sure it’s not as good as my desktop, but it was snappy enough for basic tasks.
S mode is terrible I got a new laptop I am still having issues with install other apps outside MS Store applications such as VMWare, Virtualbox etc

EDIT: Why wasn't this topic of the month of Aug

Just Google “how to disable S mode”, and it’s one checkbox. After that it lets me install anything like any normal install of Windows.

I did that on my Samsung Laptop but I still can't install any of the software I mention

Or is there a command I can use for cmd?
What exact error does it tell you if you try and install a non App Store program? Is your laptop running an ARM processor?

Though to be fair, if it was shipped in S mode, running virtual machines on it sounds like a bad idea with the lack of specs. Virtual machines require some headroom.

If I installed Virtualbox it shows this error Installation Failed Fatal error during installation and then it roll back the download installer

That’s not an S mode issue. If S mode was stopping you, it’ll give you this error:

Windows-11-S-app-doersnt-run.png

There’s something else stopping you. You could have a corrupt installer, though strange if it’s several programs. That error’s pretty vague.

Yeah I checked I can install Steam and install a game but not VMware or Virtualbox

I appreciate all the help you've given me! :)
I thought of downloading 365 on my husband's laptop. It would be nice having a version there anyways. Then I can see if I can sync it.
