No, I have not seen many people play Pokemon Go in public. But, I saw a few people play it at the park.

Yes, my local news station seem to be talking about Pokemon Go on a daily basis. But, most of the news is bad news where people were playing Pokemon Go while driving, getting robbed while playing Pokemon Go, and not paying attention to where they are when playing Pokemon Go.

And its finally happening, Pokemon goes live action..... Legendary Pictures has announced that it has acquired the film rights to Pokemon and will begin production on a Detective Pikachu film sometime next year.
