Looking closely at it, I wonder if this would sit firmly on all fours on a surface?

Because of the curves, definitely not. The stand that they have is probably going to be required for both vertical and horizontal placement.
Someone on Reddit thinks the white panels will be replaceable. That would be awesome imo
We'll have to wait and see I guess. It does look to be somewhat wide so shouldn't have too many problems being wobbly. It's way too big to stand vertically imo. I'd be scared of it falling on my TV or on to the floor.
Read from CBR on sony slashing PS5's price rumor:
A new rumor states that with the reveal of Microsoft's $499 pricing for the Xbox Series X, Sony plans to slash the price of its PlayStation 5 to match its competitor.
According to Gamereactor UK, the PlayStation 5 was "considerably" more expensive than the Xbox Series X, thus leading the company to reduce the price of the PS5 in response to the price points of the Xbox Series X/S. If the rumor is true, the disc-less PS5 will retail for $399, with the premium PS5 matching the Xbox Series X at $499.
I knew they were holding out chicken style.
Read from bloomberg and gematsu:
Sony Interactive Entertainment has cut its estimated production volume of PlayStation 5 for the fiscal year ended March 2021 by four million units, down to roughly 11 million, due to an unsteady production yield of the console’s custom-designed system-on-chip, according to people familiar with the matter.
The new report cites issues such as system-on-chip production yields as low as 50 percent, which have cut into its ability to produce as many consoles as it wishes. And while yields are said to be gradually improving, they have not yet reached a stable level.
Whelp, China is still under then.

Sony denies it:
"While we do not release the details related to manufacturing, the information provided by Bloomberg is false. We have not changed the production number for the PlayStation 5 since the start of mass production."

$499 is a reasonable price for the PS5. I feel the PS5 without a disc drive is not as good of a deal for $399 because you cant play Blu-ray discs, used disc games, or buy and play disc games which are on sale at a retail store. You will probably save more money buying used PS5 disc games than buying all digital games by buying the $399 PS5 without a disc drive.
