Just read this from Gematsu and Reuters:

PlayStation 5 pre-sold as many units in the first 12 hours in the United States as PlayStation 4 pre-sold in the first 12 weeks, Sony Interactive Entertainment president and CEO Jim Ryan said.

“The demand as expressed by the level of pre-order has been has been very, very considerable,” Ryan said.

“It may well be that not everybody who wants to buy a PlayStation 5 on launch day will be able to find one,” he added, adding that the company is “working as hard as we ever can” to ensure supply for the year-end shopping season.

Discussing Sony Interactive Entertainment Worldwide Studios, which consists of studios such as Naughty Dog, Sucker Punch, Guerrilla Games, Media Molecule, and more, Ryan said that it will continue to grow its studio capability organically, adding that “where we can bolster our in-house capability with selective mergers and acquisitions that might be possible.”

Ryan said it will be up to Sony to drive engagement in terms of how far the expansion in gaming brought about by stuck-at-home consumers affected by the COVID-19 pandemic will continue in the long term.

“We’re definitely looking upwards and thinking that we can do better than we thought we could,” Ryan said.

Saw Ps5 unboxing Video:

Read from PSU:

A newly-discovered Sony Interactive Entertainment patent has seemingly outed a PS5 auto HDR feature for the new console. The patent was filed recently on October 22 by Sony.

Auto HDR is a feature that will automatically apply HDR to textures and visuals, thus sharpening the colors and creating the illusion of the tech without it actually being implemented. In other words, PS5 games will look at that extra bit prettier without you having to lift a finger. This is all just speculation at this point as Sony hasn’t actually announced anything regarding such a feature, but we’ll be sure to let you know if we hear anything.

So originally the ps5 was even bigger, read from dualshockers and washington post:

According to PlayStation's senior art director, it could've been even bigger.

Yujin Morisawa, the man responsible for PS5's design, says that initial plans were bigger than the final product. "In the beginning, when I started drawing, it was much larger even though I didn’t know what engineering was going to do," he says. "It’s kind of funny that engineering actually told me it’s too big. So, I actually had to shrink it down a little bit from the first drawing."

As for the aesthetic design itself, Morisawa says he tried to "sculpt the invisible mass in between the player and the mechanical engineering". When questioned about the divisive reaction to the PS5's looks, he says it was "a good reaction", explaining that he aims to design things that push the envelope. He also gives the thumbs up to all those memes about the PS5 looking like other things, like routers, or the Eye of Sauron. Describing it as "good energy", Morisawa says it's good people are able to liken the console to familiar things.

Sony just said on actual 8k resolution output with future os update as opposed to currently scaled to 8k output only :

“PS5 is compatible with 8K displays at launch, and after a future system software update will be able to output resolutions up to 8K when content is available, with supported software.”

Read from pushsquare:

Due to the pandemic, Joey Chiu can’t queue for a PlayStation 5 right now. However, he’ll still be one of the first to enjoy Sony’s next-gen console, as the Japanese giant sent him a system ahead of this week’s launch. Alongside the device, the company included a commemorative plaque, which reads: “First in line for PS4. First in line for PS4 Pro. Patience is a virtue. This is for you. Play has no limits.”

Read from pushsquare, PlayStation's senior art director, Yujin Morisawa, gives a simple explanation on why the iconic Ps buttons have no colors for the Ps5:

"Yes, except for special editions, we’ve always used those colors," he tells the publication. "For the PlayStation 5, we tried to eliminate what was already there. I wanted to simplify it and make it universal," Morisawa says.

He adds that the shapes themselves "already [show] what the button is going to be", and that colours aren't really necessary, hence the one-note solution on PS5.

Crazy to think they wanted to make it bigger. Also glad to know that guy who always gets it first, still getting it first :p

Indeed and a nice PR stuff for Sony's rep too.

Glad it wasn't bigger. I'd hate to carry a big console around and I tend to travel with mine.
