The Ukraine Crisis

I saw they bombed a shopping mall yesterday :(

Read from tweaktown:

Russia has cracked down on independent media sources inside its borders following its invasion of its neighbor Ukraine.

A campaign backed by the United States government and led by the Open Technology Fund (OTF) non-profit organization is financially supporting American virtual private network (VPN) providers that offer their services to Russians for free. VPNs allow the Russian people to bypass censorship in their country to access blocked websites while protecting their data from outside observers. Their usage has skyrocketed since the invasion of Ukraine began.

"It's so very important for Russians to be connected to the whole world wide web, to keep resistance going. All kinds of initiatives are happening and to keep them alive you need the internet because you can't gather in person, or because activists are scattered around the world," said Natalia Krapiva, tech legal counsel at rights group Access Now, which is not involved in the OTF effort."

"Lantern and Psiphon are different in that we do all sorts of much more sophisticated stuff to hide our traffic and get around our servers being detected. There was a moment about two years ago when China really upped the level of their game, when it came to the lengths they were going to block stuff. We raised the level of our game a whole lot," said Lucas, a spokesperson for Lantern."

A sad sad little country. I wonder why Americans can't get VPNs for free from them.

President Vladimir Putin boasted on Thursday that Russia had barely gotten started in Ukraine and dared the West to try to beat it on the battlefield. "Today we hear that they [the West] want to defeat us on the battlefield. What can you say, let them try," he said.

Russia accuses the West, who they say is collectively headed by the United States, of waging a proxy war against it by hammering its economy with sanctions and stepping up the supply of advanced weapons to Ukraine. Putin said while there was still a possibility of peace talks, the prospects would grow dimmer the longer the conflict with Ukraine dragged on.

Pretty sure by peace talks he means terms of surrender by Ukraine.

Saw a video on Ukraine's Fighters Upgrades:

This zelensky clown had the world's moral support till and in just a few months he's managed to piss it all away making absurd demands and burning bridges. He's getting super cocky too thinking he can take back crimea now on the back of US weapons. It's safe to say there won't be any peace with two stubborn jackasses like this going at it.

After yesterday's news that he's resorting to conscription it's obvious he was bluffing hard. He is losing and he's desperate enough to send people who've never held a gun in their lives to the front line.

I thought it was for people who held military experince?

It's hard to believe this is still going on a year later. Those poor people in Ukraine still suffering and/or dying over what.......a few barrels of oil?

*shakes head* You'd rather destroy a country than let it prosper on it's own? Makes me think of a spoiled child who'd rather destroy a toy than see someone else playing with it.
